JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

**DISABILITY OFFICER**
- Department of Human Resources
- Workforce Compliance Division

**Number of Positions: 1**

Under direction, oversees the administration of the City's Reasonable Accommodation Program, and performs related duties as required.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**
- Reviews all documentation related to requests for reasonable accommodation for a disability, including medical documentation, for employees of all City of Chicago departments.
- Reviews similar requests related to pregnancy or conditions related to pregnancy.
- Documents DHR’s decisions on employee requests and captures those decisions in detailed notices.
- Conducts an interactive process that includes written and oral communications with the requesting employee, supervisors, department leadership and the employee’s medical provider, as needed.
- Oversees the record-keeping related to accommodation requests.
- Manages disability-related harassment and discrimination complaints, including supervision of the EEO Investigators handling those complaints.
- Supervises the work of the Associate Disability Officer and the HR Generalist dedicated to the RA functions.
- Consults with and counsels department leaders on accommodation-related issues and day-to-day concerns about supporting employees with disabilities.
- Develops and updates policies, procedures and training materials concerning the reasonable accommodation process and disability issues.
- Stays abreast of federal, state and local laws, as well as court cases and trends related to providing reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.
- Ensures that medical information is maintained in accordance with HIPAA standards and that other confidentiality safeguards are in place.
- Additional duties may be required for this position._

**Location**: City Hall, 121 N. La Salle Street

**Days**:Monday - Friday

**Hours**:8:30 am - 4:30 pm

**Salary**:$118,128.00

**THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE.**

**Qualifications**

Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school; plus, two years of professional work experience handling employment matters.
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience managing ADA cases or reasonable accommodation requests.
