**JOB TITLE**: Director-Child Nutrition

**WAGE/HOUR STATUS**: Exempt

**PAY GRADE**:AM 5

**PRIMARY PURPOSE**:
The Child Nutrition Director is responsible for directing and managing the Child Nutrition program and supervises the district food service operations. Plan and implement programs that meet regulatory and nutritional requirements for students, promote development of sound nutrition practices, and maintain a safe and sanitary environment.

Leaders are expected to operate daily with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others, communicate effectively and champion the needs of students.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Required**:

- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited College or University
- Five years experience in school food service environment
- Three years experience in food service management

**Preferred**:

- Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited College or University
- Certified with Texas Association for School Nutrition
- Credentialed School Food Service and Nutrition Specialist (SNS)

**SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS**:

- Knowledge of menu planning, food purchasing, quantity food preparation and inventory control of foods in food service environment
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures and data
- Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills and public relations
- Knowledge of child nutrition program regulations
- Knowledge of cost control and financial reports.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:

- Evaluate the operation of each kitchen and counsel with Supervisor and Managers concerning issues dealing with food quality, financial accountability and meal participation.
- Work cooperatively with campus principals to create a positive cafeteria environment, resolve any issues that arise, and to solicit feedback on local cafeteria operation for evaluation purposes.
- Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques and changes in laws/regulations to continue successful operations.
- Oversee bid specifications and ensure that bid language includes all required laws and regulations.
- Promote/provide nutrition education as a resource to parents, students, and teachers.
- Ensure that internal controls are in place to protect and secure and all Child Nutrition assets including food, supplies, equipment, and cash.
- Prepare budget and administer funds prudently by approving all purchases made with Child Nutrition funds and review monthly financial reports make any necessary changes to budget.
- Develop and maintain 5 year plan for equipment additions and replacement.
- Enforce safety standards that conform to federal, state, and insurance regulations and implement a program of preventative safety to protect staff members from injury.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
