At the direction of the Manager and guidance of the clinical coordinator, the Materials Coordinator is responsible to maintain an operationally and cost effective material acquisition, procurement, inventory and distribution system in the Respiratory Care services department. Oversees, ordering, maintaining, stocking of supplies in all required facility areas. Cleans equipment, maintains records, performs quality assurance as required for day to day functions.

**EDUCATION**
- _ Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma._
- HS Diploma

**PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN**:

- 6 mos-2 years Experience with equipment processing and ordering supplies.

**DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE**
- Affiliate: Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Department: Respiratory Therapy, 0-2 years experience with equipment processing and ordering supplies

**SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
- Evaluates and maintains all Respiratory Therapy consumables inventories.
- Initiates and completes ordering of Respiratory Therapy consumables.
- Develops and maintains adequate consumables in storage areas. controls flow of consumables to meet the operational goals of Respiratory therapy department.
- Checks all par locations and satellite areas for outdated supplies on a routine basis.
- Rotates all consumables to ensure FIFO (First In First Out)
- Updates all consumable par levels as needed.
- Establishes work priorities while working in fast paced environment with high clinical demands.
- Communicates backorders and estimated time of arrival to Assistant manager, clinical coordinator and or Team Leader if pertinent.
- Process and prepares for sterilization (deliver to Sterile Processing Department) non-disposable interfaces of respiratory therapy equipment as required.
- Sets up and performs quality checks on all major Respiratory Therapy equipment and documents findings prior to to equipment taken to other patient care areas.
- Investigates, troubleshoots and reports findings on all occasions of alleged equipment failures.
- Works collaboratively with the hospital Biomedical Engineering department to ensure that all respiratory equipment receive up-to-date preventative maintenance and all equipment defects are promptly addressed and resolved.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Maintain a log of all rental equipment.
- Knowledge of proper infection control techniques.
- Required to disassemble and clean soiled patient care equipment. May have the potential to be exposed biological hazards. Wearing PPE (Personal Protecting Equipment is mandatory.
- Performs duties in a self-directed manner with mínimal supervision and direction.
- Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
- Work effectively and positively in a work team environment.
- Applies the principles of continuous quality improvement which includes working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service oriented approach towards all.
- By maintaining high standards of excellence, helps the Medical Center fulfill its mission by providing compassionate care and respecting the dignity of others.
