**Background**

Brighton Allston Congregational Church (BACC) is a small worshiping community with a large food justice ministry. For the past 50 years, we have hosted a weekly community supper. Today, we are home to the Allston Brighton Food Pantry, which provides food relief to over 2,000 households and 5,000 individuals annually in our neighborhood. Our church and food pantry actively welcome and celebrate queer and trans members and guests. All of our operations are undergirded with a strong commitment to racial and environmental justice.

The programs for which we fundraise address a range of community needs. Our initiatives include a Pastoral Residency program for Trans BIPOC clergy seeking a first call, promoting equitable access to food (Community Supper, Food Pantry, Community Fridge), environmental sustainability efforts (growing a food forest, helping neighbors start fruit and veggie gardens, caring for our historic building, investing in green infrastructure), and offering social services and resource connections for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Over the past four years, our programs have expanded dramatically in response to the level of need in our community and the energy and vision of new leadership. During this period, staff and volunteers began fundraising to meet our increased costs—without formal training or experience. As our organization continues to grow, it is clear that we need someone to come on board with the expertise and experience needed to take our fundraising to the next level.

**The Role**

We are seeking a full-time Development Director to oversee all activities to achieve the fundraising goals for our food pantry and church. The Development Director will be a compelling storyteller for our organization, and will be able to speak powerfully about food justice and radically progressive Christianity.

The person filling this role will build upon existing supports, such as our Grants Committee and Fundraising Events Committee, to create a more well-rounded strategic plan for fundraising at our organization. We are looking for someone with visionary leadership skills who can come alongside our staff and volunteers to help us meet our goals. This will include training people at all levels of the organization on how to best fundraise from their position.

The Development Director will work closely with the Senior Minister and the Food Justice Programs Manager to make strategic-level decisions and solicit major donations. The execution and oversight of the strategic fundraising plan will be the responsibility of the Development Director, with support from the volunteer church and food pantry boards and limited administrative staff hours.

**Job duties include**:

- Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan for the church and food pantry. Engage all members of the community in achieving annual and multi-year development goals.
- Monitor and report regularly on progress against the development goals
- Major donor cultivation
- Design and implement a corporate sponsorship program
- Design and implement a planned giving program
- Oversee the preparation of grant proposals and grant reporting
- Run the annual church stewardship campaign with the assistance of church lay-leadership
- Work with the Food Pantry board chair to cultivate board membership
- Train board members and key staff members in fundraising techniques specific to their role in the organization
- Lead the Grants Committee and Fundraising Events Committee
- Communications related to fundraising messaging, including social media
- Database management
- Strengthen development operations systems

**Qualifications**:

- 5 - 10 yrs of progressively responsible professional fundraising positions
- Personally and successfully conducted solicitations of at least $25,000
- Demonstrated ability to secure grants of at least $10,000
- Experience in multiple areas of fundraising
- Experience with working with Board/Committee members, corporate executives, not-for-profit leadership, and volunteers
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

**Location & Hours**

This is a hybrid position, with at least 50% of hours worked in our church office in Brighton Center, including the following times
- every Wednesday from 3pm-6pm
- 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 9am-1pm
- Once a month on Sundays from 10:30am-12:30pm

Some additional weekend and evening hours are required to work with our volunteer boards and committees, and attend community events.

**Compensation**

Annual Salary of $90k-$105k, based on experience.
