Position Summary

Under the general supervision Of the Director of Crime Victim Compensation Program, the Crime Victim Claims Specialist position is responsible for independently processing and managing claims filed for reimbursement with the Crime Victim Compensation Program. The Crime Victim Compensation Claims Specialist is required to communicate with crime victims and treat them with fairness, dignity, and respect. This position is required to review and discuss information about crimes including, but not limited to repeated acts of sexual abuse perpetrated against children, sexual assault, homicide of children and adults, incidents of violence perpetrated by persons known to the victim and other disturbing violent crimes. In Addition, this position is responsible for to managing vicarious trauma that can result due to the ongoing exposure to the details of crime. The Crime Victim Compensation Claims Specialist is responsible for the management of claims involving but not limited to compensable medical expenses, wage loss, clothing/bedding reimbursement, funeral expenses, and loss of support awards.
In addition, this position is also responsible for ensuring that restitution is ordered to the Crime Victim Compensation Program and developing strategies to implement revenue recovery activities for the Crime Victim Compensation Program. This position requires extensive knowledge of program procedures. The Specialist may provide outreach and training presentations, represent the program’s interest and concerns to other organizations and the courts, and work closely with the program director in the development and implementation of new initiatives and procedures.
Salary Information

The Crime Victim Claim Specialist position is in pay schedule and range 07-03. The starting pay will be between $33.31 - $36.33 an hr. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Job Details

This position may be eligible to work remotely, reporting to the headquarters in Madison occasionally, including reporting on multiple consecutive workdays if needed. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.
The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.

- Experience writing correspondence that comply with requirements.
- Experience working in a human service capacity, (e.g., assessing individual needs, identifying appropriate services, referring clients to resources, etc.)

In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have experience in the follow ing:

- Providing direct services to crime victims (e.g. assessing for service eligibility, referrals to resources etc.,)
- Evaluating personal and financial data to verify completeness and accuracy, determine eligibility and calculate benefit awards.
- Working in a case management system.
