**DEFINITION**
Under general supervision and/or as part of various workgroups and teams, the Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) Public Health Specialist performs the following essential duties related to increasing organizational effectiveness and/or specialty public health priority areas aligned with PHMDC’s strategic plan and accreditation objectives. Promotes individual and population health through policy, environmental and systems change initiatives/programs in a variety of settings for the diverse populations represented in Madison and Dane County. Core responsibilities include establishing, strengthening and maintaining community partnerships; developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and public health initiatives, and managing work plans and timelines. Work changes as the initiatives and projects evolve. Implements grant objectives, work plans and responds to priorities set forth by the management team and direct supervisor.

**PUBLIC HEALTH SPECIALISTS may work in one of the following areas**:
**Project Management (Workforce Development)**:

- This position will play a pivotal role in supporting various workforce development projects within Public Health, specifically working closely with the Public Health team to support the implementation of a new Learning Management System (LMS), enhance workforce development policies and procedures, establish a sustainable internship program across PHMDC, and actively participate as a member of the Optimal Climate Team.

**Project Management (Organizational Effectiveness)**:

- This position will work closely with the Director of Operations and Executive Leadership Team to plan, execute, and complete projects designed to improve agency interconnectedness and maximize organizational performance. Specifically, they will support development of internal Public Health policies and procedures, support communications regarding the 2025 Operating Budget, implement methods to improve internal communication, collaboration and transparency about agency-wide initiatives and decisions, and research emerging public health issues and related administrative implications of the issues.

**Education, Experience & Special Requirements**:
**Education, Training and Experience**:
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in any Social Sciences field, Public Health, Health Education, Community Health, Public Policy, Emergency Management, or related field. At least six (6) months’ experience in implementing or coordinating programs and projects. Experience working effectively with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations.

**Special Requirements**:
Must be available to work nights and weekends, as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. May be called upon to participate in emergency preparedness exercises and real events as needed to include compensated work after hours. Employees, as a condition of employment, must be current with certain immunizations and vaccinations. A complete list provided upon hire.
