**Duties**:

- Duties listed are at full performance grade GS-11 level.
- Coordinate emergency resources and assist with the overall execution of activities of the Operations Section of the Geographic Area Coordination Center.
- Provides operational oversight, guidance, and supervises up to 12 dispatchers during peak fire activity.
- Participate in allocating resources and prioritizing incidents during periods of fire and non-fire activity and prescribed/planned fires.
- Coordinate the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resources; ensure appropriate safety measures are taken.
- Coordinate with federal and state agencies for ordering resources through the national dispatch system to support national emergencies.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision of the aviation section that directs the dispatching, coordinating, and scheduling of agency and contract aircraft, equipment, and personnel and other resources

- Must be 18 years of age.
- Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.
- Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
- Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination.

**Qualifications**:

**For the GS-9 level**: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal Service; **OR** a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; **OR** an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
- **Examples of Specialized Experience are**: Participated in allocating resources and prioritizing incidents during periods of fire and non-fire activity and prescribed/planned fires (intra
- and inter-geographic). Assisting in providing guidance and determining conformance with established policies, programs and procedures with special emphasis on logistics support and dispatch coordination (e.g., fire plans, preparedness and readiness of fire equipment and personnel, aviation operations, etc.). Providing information regarding the status and danger posed by wildland fires, air quality, and transportation disruptions to local governments and media outlets.
- **For the GS-11 level**:Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal Service; **OR** a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; **OR** an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).
- **Examples of Specialized Experience are**:Assisting in the coordinating of the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resources for fire and non-fire incidents. Assisting in developing operating manuals, handbooks, and guides, standard operating procedures, and training in the safe and effective mobilization of resources.
