Join us today and experience Life at Visa.Job DescriptionIn the role of Lead System Engineer – Observability, you will be responsible for leading technical direction and implementation of Visa’s Monitoring and Observability platform. This platform is essential to Visa’s business, providing the tooling, practices, and visibility that our development and engineering teams leverage to deliver, observe, and maintain Visa’s product suite.Essential Functions:
This role is responsible for ensuring low friction, highly secure, highly available, cost-effective and consistent toolchain to deliver effective tools to monitor, observe and operate that software in the framework of large enterprise compliance and governance needs.
This role will work closely with the operation and infrastructure leadership, software development leadership, , architecture, PMO and vendors from around the globe to deliver these services.This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.QualificationsBasic Qualifications10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.Preferred Qualifications12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhDBackground in both Systems and Software EngineeringKnowledge in AWS+Terraform, GCP and Azure architecture, service and security (desired),Competent developing software in 1 or more of Python, Golang, Ruby, C (implement defensive programming, error handling, testing frameworks)Experience in designing, automating, maintaining and optimizing observability platforms (logging, metric and tracing)Expertise and experience in delivering large-scale systems using big data technologies including but not limited to: Enterprise scale Kafka, Splunk, Prometheus, and other Time Series databasesAbreast of industry standards and trends related to telemetry and software pipelinesExperience rationalizing and implementing monitoring and observability toolchain at enterprise scaleKnowledge and experience of containers and Kubernetes clusterHands on experience consolidating application and system logs at enterprise scaleExperience with automation tools (Chef, Ansible)Experience working in a remote team across multiple regions and time zonesAutonomous and proactive.Passionate about the value of a well-defined and easy to integrate with telemetry platformPassionate about providing greater transparency to health and status of Ticketmaster systemsKeenly empathetic to the day to day experience of software development teamsA transparent communicatorDeeply concerned with the security and compliance implications of your services and solutionsCapable of delivering and accepting empathetic, constructive criticism with reports, peers, leadership and stakeholdersConscious of the need for speed of delivery and the enterprise need for governance and cost managementAdditional InformationWork Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.Visa is an EEO Employer.  Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status.  Visa will also consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with EEOC guidelines and applicable local law.Visa will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable local law, including the requirements of Article 49 of the San Francisco Police Code.U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 147,400.00 to 213,800.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable).
