Senior Technical Project Manager

North Waltham, United States Symbotic Full time
Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Technical Project Manager to drive the execution of projects from proof of concept to mass production for our robotic automation warehouse systems. You will work in close partnership with our Design Engineering, Quality, Implementation, Manufacturing Engineering and Strategic Partner teams to ensure flawless execution. Symbotic moves at a very fast pace, so your ability to lead and inspire program teams that bring products to market with high reliability is critical. Your passion will be shown in product innovation, engineering and in the consumer experience. As a Senior Technical Project Manager, you will work very closely with customers and stakeholders to align goals, priorities, and responsibilities across the various workstreams and partners. You will provide daily direction and leadership to the project team through not just management, but hands-on work as the leader for the team.

What we do

The Technical Program Management Office (PMO) oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects within the Symbotic engineering organization. The PMO establishes and implements the processes, standards, and methodologies for all project management of R&D projects and sustainment efforts required for delivered projects. The team ensures alignment with business objectives, manages key technical risks, and coordinates engineering resources to ensure successful project outcomes. The technical PMO team is responsible for handling reporting, communication, and stakeholder management across company functions and up through organization leadership. Technical PMs work closely with engineering teams to define project scope, schedule, and budget. The team is actively involved throughout the entire project lifecycle collaborating with engineering teams to ensure successful technology insertion, deployment into production, and overall sustainment support.

What you'll do
  • Lead and partner with cross functional peers to drive project deliverables, metrics and resolve barriers to success.
  • Execute projects (in an increasingly diverse and complex roadmap), on time and within budget using best practice project management skills and tools.
  • Meet or exceed all project KPI's and requirements by mass production / build start date.
  • Provide hands on technical expertise from concept validation through to production sign-off, identifying, prioritizing, and driving solutions to problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Negotiate resources, support, and manage an A-player team - Escalate issues promptly and provide regular feedback to functional managers.
  • Manage cross-functional issue tracking to identify problems, track root-cause and corrective action plans; provide issue status across engineering teams and leadership.
  • Work in close partnership with our strategic partner teams to ensure flawless execution.
  • Be an enterprise-level problem solver having a can-do, outcome-oriented mindset (that the impossible can be achieved)
  • Be relentless, resourceful, and entrepreneurial (constantly look for ways to do things better)
  • Be nimble and flexible; adapt quickly to changing circumstances or new insights.
  • Be in the details and hands on; think strategically but drive actions and outcomes.
  • Clearly articulate project challenges and solutions to a multidisciplinary team and executive level
  • Set priorities and keep momentum going. Respond quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goals.
  • Represent Symbotic to our customer(s) as project lead, ensuring clear communication, effective negotiation, and resolution of any roadblocks to success.

What you'll need
  • BS/BA in an engineering discipline or a closely related field.
  • 8+ years of Project Management expertise, functioning well in large-scale, complex, cross-functional programs integrating hardware, software, and controls.
  • Demonstrated experience running projects using agile development principles, with knowledge of industry standard tools and best practices. Experience with helping or driving groups to migrate from waterfall or combine with agile/Scrum is a plus.
  • Good negotiation and relationship skills, both in directing the technical team and ability to manage and reach solutions to competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating dynamic meetings, coordinating among high energy participants, and directing towards productive results.
  • Proficient in JIRA, MS Project, MS Power Point, MS Excel, Word, and Visio
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly articulate program information to any level of the company
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, willingness to adapt to change and proceed on decisions made with varying levels of uncertainty.
  • Experience with using metrics and data analysis to support or drive the right or most beneficial process improvements.
  • Ultimate team player. Collaborative yet passionate and motivating.
  • Ability to provide critical technical thinking at the team level to trigger appropriate discussions around requirements, design, and process challenges that the team may face.
  • Experience with industrial/robotic automation is preferred.
  • PMP Certification is a plus.
