The Opportunity
The Executive Director oversees all aspects of the association and serves as its Chief Executive Officer. CASP is managed by a five-person professional staff and governed by an elected fifteen-member Board of Directors. The Executive Director will provide close consultation to the Board without themselves being a board member. The Executive Director is responsible for strategic planning, the supervision of staff, progress toward goals, implementation of board-approved policies, and the financial, program, and administrative management of association operations. This position also serves as an ex officio Director and Secretary/Treasurer of the California School Psychology Foundation, CASP’s charitable arm.

Working conditions and hours
The Executive Director works primarily remotely in the Sacramento, California area and is expected to attend in-person meetings, events and other duties. The Sacramento office is Class A with on-site amenities and proximity to primary commuter routes. Standard workdays and workweeks are the norm. However, the daily work of the membership (school hours) requires flexibility from the association staff to participate in late afternoon board and committee meetings and occasional weekends. The position requires occasional in-state travel, for up to a week at a time and about 10% of annual time.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required in a relevant field (business, public administration, or nonprofit management) with attainment of an advanced degree preferred. A minimum of five years executive or senior-level experience in a member-based or other nonprofit organization is required. Designation as a Certified Association Executive (CAE) is highly desired. The successful candidate will show a strong track record of strategic planning, organizational development, membership recruitment and retention, legislative coordination, and project management. We are looking for a strong leader with excellent communication skeels, sound judgement, knowledge of relevant industry issues and trends, integrity with a commitment to ethical conduct, and proficiency with Microsoft Suite, QuickBooks, and association management software (we currently utilize Cvent and AMO).
