About the District Manager (DM) Role As District Manager, you’ll manage multiple Lines of Business and the day-to-day collection operations of the Somerset Hauling site as well as two (2) transfer stations - owning the full P&L for all sites. You'll establish and maintain performance / productivity metrics as well as cost management processes. This role directly manages / leads approximately 4 exempt and non-exempt administrative employees, approximately 35 indirect drivers and technicians and 30 routes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to drivers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Associate's Degree, High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: 2 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility (in addition to education requirement).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in this position

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required (at least 2 of the following)

  • Operations
  • Customer Service
  • Community Relations
  • Health and Safety
  • Financial and HR function
  • Experience as a supervisor or manager
  • Experience implementing safety (OSHA) programs and equipment specifications
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets
  • Experience resolving labor relations issues
