Job Summary
The Manager, Network Efficiency is responsible for working with the Network Operations, Engineering and Mechanical teams to execute on strategic initiatives and deliver projects that positively affect the CN's key performance metrics. Moreover, the role tracks the progress of these initiatives in relation to the organization's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The position participates in the continuous improvement focus by evaluating, planning, and implementing improvements in processes and practices and ensuring their consistency. The role collaborates with functional owners to diagnose problems and prioritize and source viable solutions. The position involves project planning, cost estimation, evaluation of financials, resource management and risk assessment.
Main Responsibilities
Efficiency and Process Improvement
Identify and implement process improvement projects that will improve efficiency and reduce cost
Assist the Engineering, Mechanical and Network Operations team in the implementation and sustainability of process improvement initiatives
Train field and shop personnel on new processes and data collection
Analyze performance based on in-person field and shop visits
Provide weekly and monthly performance summaries
Develop reports to support analysis leveraging available data
Develop tracking and metrics to support improvement
Strategic Planning
Participate in long-term planning to ensure sustainable process integration
Support leadership with analyzing performance and efficiency
Administrative
Document requirements, problem statements, process and scope
Communicate findings to team and management at all levels
Assist Engineering and Mechanical leaders in monitoring of improvement initiatives
Working Conditions
The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments in various weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires regular travel (50%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.) to various CN locations. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.
Requirements
Experience
Continuous Improvement
Minimum 5 years continuous improvement experience within the transportation industry
o Experience teaching, training, and leading continuous improvement implementation
o Experience working in a unionized environment

Education/Certification/Designation
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
