ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE The Dietary Assistant works to support the mission and vision of the PACE center by supporting the overall quality of food services. This position will assist with general oversight of meal selection, preparation, service, and clean-up of food services for elderly patients at the PACE center. RESPONSIBILITIES * Assists the Registered Dietitian in providing safe and therapeutic nutrition services to meet the diverse needs of patients * Supports meal services and post meal clean-up, including plate preparation, serving meals, and cleaning dining and kitchen areas * Develops routine meal counts to share with food vendor; updates, corrects, and adjusts meal counts and special diet needs, as needed * Stores prepared food items from vendor in areas with an acceptable temperature prior to meal service * Measures and records the temperature of foods routinely to ensure foods remains save for serving, including upon food delivery and prior to serving meals * Plates the food for meal services based on dietary card instructions specifying food preferences and special needs * Prepares alternate pre-determined menu items, as needed * Reviews menus, dietary spreads, and other information related to daily menus to ensure compliance with dietary standards, patient diets, and general meal services * Provides direction to CNAs for dining services, such as table assignments and tasks related to meal services * Provides oversight in dining room during meal services, assists with serving meals, and monitors meal satisfaction with patients * Reviews logs after meals and shares patient concerns with appropriate staff, as needed * Checks and calibrates kitchen thermometers regularly * Assists in the packaging and packing of home delivered meals EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE * High school diploma/GED required * Two years' food preparation and service experience required; food service experience within healthcare or social service organizations preferred * Valid CPR certification, First Aid and Food Handler Card required ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills * Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form * Knowledgeable about and experience with proper food handling with specific dietary requirements * Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously * Excellent planning and organizational ability * Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently * Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner Physical Requirements * Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs/weight * Ability to stand for long periods of time Neighborhood Healthcare offers a generous benefit plan that includes: Partially company paid Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans. Two plus weeks of vacation, Nine Holidays including two Floating Holidays of your choosing, Sick/Personal time, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), 403b Retirement plan (similar to a 401k), optional Health and Wellness events, and much more Pay range: $24.00 - $28.25 per hour, depending on experience.
