Position Summary

The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant plays a crucial role in advancing the mission of Neighborhood Healthcare by assisting in the delivery of rehabilitative physical therapy services. This position involves collaborating with physical therapists to evaluate participants and implement effective treatment strategies aimed at enhancing independence and safety within the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support physical therapists in executing rehabilitation programs for participants utilizing day services, which may include therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular reeducation, and functional activities.
  • Provide insights to physical therapists for program adjustments based on participant needs.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate patient capabilities.
  • Assist in developing personalized care plans aimed at reducing disabilities and enhancing functional independence.
  • Ensure adherence to individualized care plans.
  • Deliver various physical therapy modalities aligned with participant care plans, including pain relief treatments and functional ability assessments.
  • Guide participants and their caregivers in the effective use of adaptive devices and therapeutic activities.
  • Assess treatment effectiveness and recommend adjustments to therapy goals as necessary.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of treatments provided.
  • Promote dignity and self-esteem in all patient interactions.
  • Assist in the procurement and maintenance of necessary therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulations and compliance standards.
  • Participate in training initiatives for staff and caregivers.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assisting is required; specialization in geriatric care is preferred.
  • Valid California Physical Therapy Assistant license in good standing is mandatory.
  • Preferred experience includes at least one year in a physical therapy assistant role within a geriatric or disabled care setting.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on clear documentation.
  • Ability to interpret diverse instructions and adapt to various communication styles.
  • Familiarity with treatment principles and rehabilitation methods for disabilities.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to tailor therapy modalities to individual needs.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, including the Older Americans Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Ability to build therapeutic relationships and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Capacity to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods.
