Key Aspects of the Position

  • Maintains current knowledge and provides support for all aspects of the Health Information Software and Infrastructure, including Meditech and other software applications, although primarily assigned specifically as clinical support.
  • Understands clinical workflows with the ability to conceptualize, create, and document new workflows for efficient and compliant processes.
  • Creates and maintains documentation for application software, including diagrams of software process flow and workflow processes in conjunction with the Health Information System.
  • Creates custom reports from application databases based on organizational needs.
  • Assigned responsibility with other Specialists to maintain and comply with Government Programs, including Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR), Electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQM), National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), Promoting Interoperability Program requirements, and Safety Assurance Factors for E.H.R. Resilience (SAFER) standards.
  • Creates training materials and conducts training for staff on all relevant software applications.
  • Ensures HIPAA compliance in the organization.
  • Applies hardware and software release upgrades.
  • Resolves help desk issues following helpdesk protocol to maintain service delivery levels and integrity of reporting metrics.
Technical
  • Server maintenance and troubleshooting, including software security patches, operating system updates, performance tuning, log analysis, maintaining application updates, and bug fixes.
  • Understand the behavior of software, hardware, and systems in relation to their use of communications technology to deploy solutions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Coordinates voice network services and technical and maintenance support with outside service providers.
Security
  • Strong knowledge of current computer, server, and network security systems and techniques to prepare for attacks and recommend new approaches and defense methods.
  • Knowledge of methods for detecting and preventing intrusion and other security
  • Protects communication of health information through secure channels.
Networking
  • Provide support for the Incident Management process and drive resolution. Must have a firm grasp of network security, appliances, infrastructure, and concepts.
  • Perform network management functions.
Communications
  • Possesses good communication skills and interacts well with users.
  • Must be able to diagnose problems, know how to rectify them best, and communicate the solution effectively, quickly, and correctly to co-workers or end-users.
  • Work closely with the IT Director, CNO, and CFO.
Development
  • Meets with vendors to hold product demonstrations, preparing and presenting new options to decision-making parties as warranted.
  • Validation of new technologies proposed for use.
  • Assists in short- and long-term planning, including developing strategic plans to leverage emerging technology to support future enterprise needs.

Requirements

Education: High School diploma, College, or University degree preferred.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience within a Healthcare IT environment. MEDITECH health information system experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates: Licensed as a practical or registered nurse by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.

Special Skill: Informatics Training preferred. Must have knowledge of troubleshooting or problem-solving skills.
