The Opportunity

The Vice President, Technology Strategy & Portfolio Management (VP) is a high-visibility, global role in Enterprise IT (EIT) and a key member of the leadership team reporting to the Chief Information Officer. The VP will collaborate with business and functional senior leaders to help develop and execute technology strategies that create a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The role will own the prioritization process and facilitate effective decision-making between partners and stakeholders to maximize returns and customer satisfaction.

This role will require cross-functional collaboration with executives and senior management in various business units across the company. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable in high-visibility settings, and able to innovate and build a deep working knowledge of Iron Mountain’s unique customers, capabilities, and assets. The candidate will need to leverage expertise to translate working knowledge of business into clear, specific strategies and be able to participate in and sponsor cross-functional project teams.

Role and Responsibilities

Technology Strategy

  1. Shape the technological direction of the organization by acting as a strategic partner, ensuring alignment with business objectives by creating and leading a team of technology business partners to deliver world-class solutions to our customers.
  2. Collaborate with key growth business units (BU) - Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM), Data Center (IMCD), Digital, Global RIM, and Crozier - to develop and drive customer-centric solution roadmaps to support multi-year growth plans and ensure strategic alignment and integration.
  3. Partner with BU leadership teams to develop annual technology budgets and multi-year financial plans, ensuring strategic planning and budgets account for technology growth and optimization to support business strategy.
  4. Act as liaison across all functional areas, BUs, Enterprise IT, and vendors.
  5. Prioritize demand and facilitate decision making by clearly articulating ROI and the impact of trade-offs.
  6. Collaborate with architecture and operations teams to ensure compatibility with enterprise standards and deliver the best possible user experience for customers and internal stakeholders.
  7. Understand the competitive landscape and emerging technologies to identify and evaluate new solution opportunities that address unmet business needs of internal and external customers.
  8. Drive the IT M&A integrations strategy to ensure new acquisitions are integrated according to established standards and meet the deal rationale, ensuring seamless technology M&A integration planning.

Portfolio and Performance

  1. Establish and drive the framework for ongoing portfolio and demand management, including metrics, governance, and value realization.
  2. Manage the portfolio suite of products, services, and projects - focusing on performance and value management.
  3. Lead the EIT Financial Operations (FinOps) team to ensure financial and budget management processes are executed in close collaboration with the corporate Finance team. Ensure the team tracks and reports EIT financial metrics, analyzes trends, and resolves variances in the plan. This leader also ensures there is a consistent and transparent accounting of cost allocations and chargebacks to Iron Mountain’s organizational groups.
  4. Establish and execute an overall framework and strategy for EIT license management, partnering with procurement to ensure contract optimization.
  5. Lead the EIT vendor management strategy, providing performance data and metrics, focusing on optimizing the EIT vendor landscape.

  1. Lead the EIT change management and agile teams, driving the change strategy where applicable across transformation programs.
  2. Develop and implement strategies for attracting, developing, and retaining talent, optimizing work processes to achieve high performance and innovation.
  3. Ensure the new customer-focused operating model and ways of working are properly communicated to all levels of the organization and that EIT is set up for success in this model.
  4. Support the workforce and talent strategy, supporting the newly created Global Tech Hubs, maximizing their potential by ensuring high quality engagement with our business stakeholders and the hub leadership.

The Ideal Candidate Characteristics & Credentials

  1. Bachelors in Business Administration or related field required, MBA preferred
  2. 15+ years of strategy, transformation, and/or technology experience with global impact
  3. Experience managing teams responsible for client management and solution delivery, as well as the ability to influence without authority and build consensus among executive teams
  4. Experience in a customer-facing role such as technical sales or pre-sales
  5. Strong executive communication skills and problem-solving abilities
  6. Demonstrable experience in roles requiring systems thinking and problem solving
  7. Comfort in a rapidly changing environment with competing priorities
  8. Experience working across all levels of a highly matrixed global organization
  9. Strong sense of urgency and results orientation
  10. Ability to quickly develop domain expertise and manage change
  11. Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  12. Ability to work in a team environment and maintain professionalism and integrity
  13. Ability to travel globally to experience the various ways our business operates, communicate technology strategy, and meet with global team members to enable consistency in our culture and values
