About the AI Innovation Lab at HubSpot:

The AI Innovation Lab is HubSpot's product incubator at hubspotlabs.com, designed to explore and build AI-driven solutions that elevate customer engagement, improve marketing and sales strategies, and streamline operations. As part of the AI Innovation Group, the Innovation Lab combines the agility of a startup with the resources of a larger organization. We are a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, designers, and product managers, creating cutting-edge AI solutions to shape the future of HubSpot's platform.
Role Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned technical leader to guide our team in leveraging advanced AI technologies to bring impactful, customer-centered innovations to life. We are particularly seeking candidates with an entrepreneurial spirit who have experience as technical founders or founding engineers in an AI-focused startup, and who possess a broad understanding of AI system design that extends beyond specific machine learning tasks. This role emphasizes rapid prototyping, seamless integration of new AI tools, and a strategic, collaborative approach to problem-solving.
What You'll Do:
  • Drive AI-Infused Product Development: Design and lead the development of AI applications that enhance our product suite, ensuring seamless user experiences.
  • Experimenting with Advanced AI Solutions: Develop end-to-end experiments that bring together large language models, conversational interfaces, and other AI tools.
  • Mentor and Inspire: Share your knowledge of AI and product development with the team, promoting best practices in scalable AI deployment, experimentation, and system integration. Empower team members through mentoring and guidance.
  • Innovate with a Startup Mentality: Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to identify new AI-driven opportunities, rapidly prototype solutions, and validate their potential impact in production environments.
  • Stay Ahead of AI Trends: Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge AI tools and practices to continuously improve our AI capabilities.
Who You Are:
  • Experienced Technical Leader: You have a track record of delivering high-impact projects in AI or data-intensive systems, ideally as a technical founder or founding engineer at an AI startup.
  • Innovative and Hands-On: You excel at navigating new AI landscapes, with experience deploying scalable AI products or integrating ML systems into broader software architectures.
  • Systems Thinker: Strong experience with backend engineering and an understanding of how to build robust, maintainable AI systems. Familiarity with large language models, conversational interfaces, and data management for continuous learning is a plus.
  • Mentor and Collaborator: You're skilled at fostering a collaborative environment, providing guidance and mentorship to elevate the team's capabilities.
  • Adaptable Problem Solver: Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make pragmatic decisions to guide the team effectively, with a focus on both innovation and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong foundation in AI-driven products and scalable systems.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams, including mentoring and defining engineering best practices.
  • Proficiency in Python and backend technologies relevant to AI integration, with familiarity in tools like LangChain, RAG, and LLM fine-tuning preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset that thrives in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.
