Cambridge, United States Capital One Full time

As a key member of our AI Foundations team, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of artificial intelligence at Capital One. Our vision is to create trustworthy and reliable AI systems that change banking for good.

We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative individual who can drive strategic direction through collaboration with Applied Science, Engineering, and Product leaders across Capital One. As a well-respected leader, you will guide and mentor a team of applied scientists and their managers without being a direct people leader. You will represent Capital One in the research community, collaborating with prominent faculty members in the relevant AI research area.

This role involves partnering with cross-functional teams of data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered platforms and solutions that transform customer experiences. You will leverage a broad stack of technologies, including PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs, to uncover insights hidden within large volumes of numeric and textual data.

Key responsibilities include building AI foundation models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation. You will engage in high-impact applied research to take the latest AI developments and push them into the next generation of customer experiences. Additionally, you will flex your interpersonal skills to translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals.

Our ideal candidate is passionate about analyzing and creating but also shares our commitment to doing the right thing for our customers. You continually research and evaluate emerging technologies, staying current on published state-of-the-art methods, technologies, and applications. You thrive on bringing definition to big, undefined problems and are not afraid to share new ideas.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with at least 4 years of experience in Applied Research. They should have hands-on experience developing AI foundation models and solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms. A deep understanding of AI methodologies, experience with large deep learning models, and expertise in one or more areas such as training optimization, self-supervised learning, robustness, explainability, and RLHF are essential.

The salary range for this position is $322,000 - $367,500 per annum, depending on location. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives. We offer a comprehensive set of benefits that support your total well-being. If you are a motivated and innovative individual who is passionate about AI and committed to making a positive impact, we encourage you to apply.
