Description:


We are looking for a payroll coordinator to manage all payroll activities and ensure the timely and accurate payment of employee wages. The payroll coordinator will ensure the collection of all necessary information and documents, compute wages, and investigate and resolve any payroll issues or discrepancies.

To be successful as a payroll coordinator you should be able to efficiently coordinate payroll tasks and strictly follow company policies and legal regulations. An outstanding payroll coordinator should also possess strong people skills.

Essential Functions:
  • Collecting and verifying employee and timekeeping data
  • Computing wages, deductions, commissions, benefits, etc.
  • Reviewing computed wages to ensure accuracy
  • Issuing and distributing paychecks
  • Updating payroll information for promotions, transfers, terminations, and new hires
  • Recording and maintaining employee records and payroll transactions
  • Preparing statements reflecting earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Answering questions and resolving issues regarding payroll
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, relevant industry regulations, tax, and deduction laws
  • Preparing payroll reports for management and auditing purposes
  • Prepares bi-monthly payroll including direct deposits
  • Processes all deduction checks (credit union, garnishments, union dues), payment of taxes and retirement. Electronically submits payment for taxes and Medicare
  • Processes all substitute, period substitute and supplemental pay. Compiles leave and absences for each employee
  • File monthly reports with SERS and STRS and prepare refund requests. Verify service credit for former employees
  • Prepares annual salary (contract) notices, W-2's and 1099's
  • Enters all receipts and purchase orders in computer
  • Does computer entry to pay all vendor bills. Verifies check register to calculator tape listing of bills, prints and mails checks
  • Balances accounting and payroll systems monthly. Prepares reports for all principals, department heads and student advisors
  • Reconciles paid checks in computer for month end balancing to bank statement. Prints outstanding check registers
  • Prints all computer reports for month, quarter and year-end
  • Process employment verifications
  • Encumbers all purchase orders
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field perferred
  • 2-5 years of experience in payroll administration
  • Good working knowledge of accounting practices and tax laws
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, payroll systems and database software
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in math
  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
