Pittsburgh, United States Carnegie Mellon University Full time

Mobile Crisis Clinician - Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

For more than 70 years, the Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) at Carnegie Mellon University has been addressing the mental health needs of the university community by providing confidential, growth-oriented treatment to students and collaborating with the CMU community. CaPS aims to be an advocate for social justice and believes that part of mental health work includes taking action to build care systems which are sensitive to historically underrepresented populations.

Now, we're embarking on an innovative journey with the launch of our Mobile Crisis Team, CMU HEART. We're seeking passionate mental health clinicians to join us in this groundbreaking initiative who are interested in becoming change-makers within this field.

Why Join CaPS?

Pioneering Impact: Be at the forefront of a transformative approach to mental health care within university counseling centers. As a Mobile Crisis Clinician, you'll play a pivotal role in reshaping how mental health crises are addressed, fostering collaboration with the police department to provide timely and effective interventions. By responding to identified crises on-site, the mobile crisis clinicians can make change in the lives of students when needed most.

Balanced Schedule: Shifts for this position will be Tuesday to Saturday, from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. While these hours may differ from traditional schedules, they offer a unique advantage - fewer anticipated crises to respond to compared to positions in the broader community. This means you'll have more time for in-depth interventions, personalized support, and self-care between calls. Additionally, these positions offer the advantage of protection from after-hours call rotations. This means that when you're off-duty, you're truly off-duty

Dynamic Environment: Experience the excitement of working in a dynamic, thoughtful environment where every day brings new challenges with adequate support and opportunities for growth. Our Mobile Crisis Team operates Tuesday to Saturday, ensuring variety in your schedule and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students.

These Mobile Crisis Clinician positions are full-time, 12-month positions reporting to the Program Director for Triage, Case management and Consultation Services.

* Accompanies clients in need of hospitalization to the emergency room and provides collateral information to hospital/facility staff and confirms disposition of care.

* Participates in triage activities and assessments as needed.

* Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidenced-based intervention strategies.
