Fitness Manager

The primary duty of the Fitness Manager is responsible for the implementation of the physical fitness program of the Washington Seniors Wellness Center and assists with coordination of other program activities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Program and prescribe exercise programs for seniors based on their physiological status and ability level.
- Conduct annual physical fitness assessments on all participants and assign participants according to exercise level and space availability.
- Instructs appropriate exercise and fitness programs for participants in the group and individual forms; instructs appropriate participant's use of all fitness equipment.
- Monitors and records participant's progress; Provide monthly reports of fitness activity and other reports as requested.
- Prepare fitness flyers to communicate with seniors.
- Assist with the planning of related activities in the Core Curriculum, Health Promotion, Evidence-Based, Medication Management Program, and other program events and activities as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned for achieving program goals and objectives.
- Improve fitness programs and plan events.
- Manages Fitness Contractors' schedules and ensures certifications and annual clearances are updated.
- Maintenance of gym, maintains gym equipment and ensures functionality and cleanliness.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters, including but not limited to, clients, personnel, budgets, contracts, Board of Directors, and all other non-public business information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each principal accountability satisfactorily. The requirements list ed below are represent at ive of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A. Work Experience:
- Minimum of three years’ experience with planning and implementing fitness programs required.
- Experience working with the senior population in a service capacity desired.
- Associate' s degree (A.A.) preferred.
- High School Diploma (or GRED equivalent) required.
- Certificate/ License for Fitness Instructor in all fitness disciplines are related modalities required.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscit at ion (CPR) certificate requires; if not certified at hire, CPR certificate must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
- Must possess a working and demonstrated knowledge of fit ness standards and activities, preferably as they relate to the senior population.
- Ability to instruct, encourage, and motivate members/seniors; must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audience members, including seniors.
- Demonstrated public speaking and present at ion ability.
- Must have knowledge of issues facing resident s of Ward 7.
- Knowledge of community engagement and outreach approaches.
- Knowledge of and the ability to follow confidentiality protocols.
- Able to with community residents and community based organizations.
- Able to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Able to define and evaluate problems and determine or suggest solutions.
- Able to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Working Environment:
- Indoors at the Seniors Wellness Center; primarily interacting with members.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to instruct fitness classes to seniors which may include demonstrating fitness activities and fitness equipment. The employee is also frequently required to sit at a workstation and use a personal computer and telephone. The employee must regularly lift and/or move general office supplies, files or boxes weighing up to 10 pounds.
