As the HR Generalist, you will be responsible for managing all essential human resource functions, ensuring smooth operations and compliance across the board. Your areas of focus will include, but are not limited to, payroll and benefits administration, employee relations, compliance reporting, records management, recruitment, onboarding, and transitions. This role requires a meticulous approach to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to legal, contractual, and procedural requirements, especially when handling sensitive employee data. You will work closely with school leadership to align HR functions with our organizational goals, creating a positive and productive work environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take ownership of HR operations, contribute strategically, and directly impact the success of our growing charter school group.
Key Responsibilities:HR Leadership & Employee Relations:
- Serve as the go-to HR resource for school staff, providing guidance on employee relations, conflict resolution, performance management, and development opportunities.
- Partner with school leaders to foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee and manage the full payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate payment to all employees.
- Administer benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans, and support employees with benefits inquiries and claims.
- Manage open enrollment periods and communicate benefits updates to staff.
- Lead recruitment efforts, from job postings to candidate selection and onboarding, ensuring that the best talent is brought on board.
- Develop recruitment strategies that align with the needs and mission of the school group.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws, including labor laws and payroll regulations.
- Review and update HR policies to meet evolving legal and operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate employee records and manage HR-related reporting.
- Work closely with leadership to implement HR best practices, including performance management systems, compensation reviews, and employee development programs.
- Assist in planning and executing HR strategies that align with the school’s mission and support employee retention and engagement.
Qualifications:Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in human resources, payroll processing, or a similar role, preferably within the education sector or charter schools.
- Proven track record in managing end-to-end HR operations, including recruitment, employee relations, payroll, and compliance.
- Current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Professional certifications such as PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) are strongly preferred.
- In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws, payroll regulations, and labor statutes.
- Familiarity with educational institutions’ HR practices, especially those relevant to charter schools.
- Solid knowledge of accounting principles related to payroll, benefits, and HR operations.
- Experience developing and implementing HR policies and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (complex formulas, data analysis, pivot tables).
- Proficiency in Google Suite and HR/payroll software systems.
- Ability to manage, analyze, and report on payroll and HR data while maintaining accurate records.
Communication:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively to a diverse audience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, management, and external stakeholders.
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail, capable of managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and balance competing demands.

- Strong commitment to maintaining ethical standards in all HR functions.

- Previous experience in a small educational setting or charter school environment is highly desirable.
