Position Overview:


Within the Strategy Department at BBDO, Strategy Directors are a key anchor point: you are leading clients, flexing your muscle at new business, and helping foster a culture of ambition, risk, and trust, which are foundational to the work we need to do for our clients and how we will continue to transform for the future.


We’re looking for a Strategy Director to join our team. This person should seamlessly blend logic and critical thinking with the creativity to reframe challenges into strategic solutions that shift behavior and unlock new opportunities for brands and the work we create for them.

This person ideally has experience in brand and communications planning, digital strategy, market research, and analytics. They should be able to demonstrate how they have helped build modern brands, not just in advertising, but through other areas like content and/or experiences.

You will be leading a team and the ‘team spirit’ extends beyond the accounts you are tasked with leading as our Strategy Directors take on active mentorship (informal and formal) within the Strategy Department. We are a ‘doer’ culture, and you will be expected to be passionate about hands-on shaping and guiding the work as well as elevating the strategic product of the team.


What You’ll Do:


  • Partner closely with your counterparts in Creative, Account, Marketing Science, and Connections Planning and foster an environment that embodies the core values of BBDO and joint Omnicom AT&T teams
  • Inspire fresh, original ideas that are rooted in culture and human and business insight
  • Champion the customer in everything that we do through in-depth understanding and knowledge of our client's brand and their audiences through customer data
  • Positively impact the creative product through data-driven insights, business acumen, and cultural inspiration by infusing your brand, digital, social, comms, data, and experiential expertise into the briefing process.
  • Drive integrated thinking and delivery across the multiple Omnicom agencies – covering advertising digital, media, and CRM
  • Be accountable for positively contributing to the overall health of the Client/Agency partnership; know the inner workings of the Client’s business and have direct contact up to CMO level.
  • Be accountable for quality control of strategies and briefs set against long-term brand objectives
  • Be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary vision partnering with all disciplines and aligning with AT&T leadership
  • Effectively grow and manage the business and advance thought leadership pieces.
  • Attract, recruit, retain, and develop best-in-class talent
  • Promote a learning culture: ensure the use, adoption, and learning of proprietary strategic tools and actively challenge your peers to think differently: promote a learning culture.


Who You’ll Be:


At BBDO, we have a strategy department where everyone will be expected to learn and flex in the various ‘flavors’ of modern strategy: brand, business, audience, data and connections. You will be able to demonstrate ‘minimum viable mastery’ of all these skills, even if they may be beyond your primary specialty. We are all strategists after all

More specifically, you will be versed in:

  • 10+ years of professional agency experience in a senior strategic role
  • Prior experience successfully developing customer solutions that have been game-changing for your client's business
  • Ability to successfully manage and mentor team members
  • Strong knowledge of data and its impact on strategies and creativity
  • An understanding of social and content in building and strengthening a brand/brand experience as well as fostering dynamic interactions with customers
  • An openness and understanding of new forms of innovations (e.g. AI, machine learning, Internet of things, or IoT, etc.)
  • A passion for the role of technology and connectivity in our lives
  • Curious and open-minded with a proven track record for driving multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Excited by business transformation beyond advertising and demonstrates a high level of industry engagement
  • Despite being a brand expert, enjoy a steep learning curve
  • Experience broader than traditional brand planning – client side, comms, experience, data, or other
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills
  • Ability to problem-solve many challenges simultaneously, quickly, calmly, and efficiently
  • Demonstrates an informed and thoughtful POV internally and with clients
  • Proactively tracks trends in business and marketplace relevant to Client business.
