Student Support Services Coordinator


Role:  Student Support Services Coordinator

Team: Works alongside Student Success Coach (Behavioral Support), Counselor, Special Education Teachers (2), Speech Language Provider, Occupational Therapist, Dean of Students, and Intervention Coordinator 

Role Timeline: 11 month employee

Start Date: August 2024

Note: This role can be filled on either a part-time or full-time basis. Position Summary:

The Student Services Coordinator is a dedicated and dynamic professional responsible for overseeing and managing the development and implementation of 504 plans, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and English Language Learner (ELL) programming at our school. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all students receive the support and resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. The Student Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in fostering an inclusive educational environment that empowers all students to achieve their full potential. 


Core Responsibilities:

  • 504 Plan Coordination:
      • Oversee the school’s efforts to execute 504 plans for about 30-40 students annually
      • Develop, implement, and monitor 504 plans for students requiring accommodations
      • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals to create effective support strategies
      • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding 504 plans
      • [If working full-time] Provide direct 504 services with 5-10 students annually with an emphasis in core executive functioning skill practice (would not be providing academic intervention services)
  • Individualized Education Program (IEP) Management:
      • Oversee the IEP process, including initial assessments, annual reviews, and updates; to accomplish this,  work in conjunction with service providers to schedule and administer assessments for students 
      • Work closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, parents, and related service providers to coordinate evaluations and develop comprehensive IEPs
      • Review and understand all raw data from an evaluation (including test scores, behavior logs, academic records, and any other measurable data that provides insights into a student’s strengths and areas for improvement); provide written narrative of a student’s evaluation; communicate and share with AFIA staff members so they understand their role in supporting needs of student
      • Schedule and facilitate annual IEP meetings with the student’s IEP team (including family members, teachers, support staff); ensure annual IEP meetings meet all DESE guidelines and requirements 
      • Ensure adherence to all legal requirements and maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Collaboration and Advocacy:
      • Lead the collaboration with Student Success Team when there is a need to refer a student for special education evaluation
      • Spearhead the ongoing and regular review of intervention data and refer students for special education evaluations when appropriate
      • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and external agencies to advocate for student needs and ensure effective communication
      • Facilitate meetings and communicate regularly with all stakeholders to discuss student progress and address any concerns
      • Coordinate with outside agencies providing services to district students with IEPs
  • Professional Development and Training:
      • Conduct ongoing training sessions for staff on 504 plans, IEPs, and ELL best practices
      • Stay updated on the latest educational laws, regulations, and methodologies pertaining to special education and ELL programming
  • Data Management and Reporting:
      • Maintain detailed records and documentation for all student services provided
      • Analyze data to monitor student progress and program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary
  • Other Services 
    • When needed, coordinate ELL programs to support non-native English speakers in achieving language proficiency

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid teaching or administrative certification
  • Extensive knowledge of 504 plans, IEP processes; ideal to have familiarity with ELL programming
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external stakeholders
