The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a distinguished urban educational institution serving a diverse student body of approximately 22,000, representing over 60 languages spoken in their homes. KCKPS is proud to include Sumner Academy, recognized as the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and the top High School in Kansas according to US News rankings.
As the fifth largest school district in Kansas, KCKPS encompasses Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools. Our student demographic is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. The district employs around 4,000 staff members, including over 1,800 educators.
JOB OBJECTIVE: To accurately record, process, and maintain student attendance records.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Document all student absences and tardiness in the attendance system.
- Handle attendance inquiries from parents.
- Collaborate with the Truancy Monitor to identify and track students with attendance issues.
- Generate attendance reports for external agencies.
- Serve as the primary operator of the phone master system.
- Maintain and organize permanent records and cumulative folders.
- Prepare enrollment documentation and manage supplies.
- Assist counselors with enrollment processes, record management, transcript requests, and immunization documentation.
- Facilitate the onboarding of new students by greeting, screening, and directing them to the appropriate counselor or administrator.
- Oversee the maintenance of permanent record files for both active and inactive students.
- Accountable for district enrollment statistics.
- Support front office operations by welcoming visitors.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth functioning of the school office.
- Perform additional clerical and office tasks as assigned by the principal.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Proficient data entry skills.
- Strong computer literacy.
Maintain effective communication with school staff and parents/guardians to foster collaborative efforts that meet the educational needs of students. Utilize technology efficiently in carrying out responsibilities. Perform other related duties as necessary.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to address practical problems and interpret various forms of instructions, whether written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Capability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
