Background: NCAS is a STEM engagement activity for community college students seeking to transfer to a 4-year institution or go directly to the labor force. NCAS uses NASA’s unique expertise, research, facilities, and other resources in the area of aerospace to engage students in authentic and experiential learning experiences. Three consecutive mission opportunities are offered alongside an opportunity to apply for a paid internship. NCAS also partners with Minority Serving Institutions enabling them to engage students in similar experiences that are scaled to the institutions’ STEM networks.


Mission 1: Discover allows students to participate in a 5-week, self-paced online course, where they learn about NASA missions, research, and goals.


Mission 2: Explore allows students to participate in one of two educational simulations. The simulations help students practice and improve their knowledge while having fun.


Mission 3: Innovate allows students to participate in an engineering design challenge: robotics competition or capstone project; participating students will be hosted onsite for a week at an NCAS partner institution or a NASA field center.


Essential Functions:

  • Monitor project timelines and task allocations - updating management tools with status for assigned activities in real time
  • Coordinate and collaborate across team to assure that all work products content and functionality are of highest quality and informed with up-to-date information
  • Attend weekly contract management and daily stand-up meetings as needed to support contract execution
  • Develop SOPs and QC procedures; and update to reflect efficiencies, best practices, and lessons learned
  • Contributes to client progress and status reports (i.e., monthly reports, weekly registration metrics, etc.)
  • Documents all expenses in ODC tracker
  • Assist with market research / literature reviews and present findings
  • Prepare and maintain project file folders with all completed work products, artifacts, and deliverables
  • Contribute to quality control process - to include peer review of work products and coordinating QC of deliverables
  • Document quality control of work products and deliverables prior to delivery to client and/or management
  • Stay up to date on necessary technology and processes and show initiative in capturing, documenting, and implementing best practices and lessons learned to improve quality and efficiency of services and solutions

Work Environment: The work environment is a typical office setting at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC).


Physical demands: The physical demands of the job include sitting for extended periods, and occasional walking and standing.


Position type and expected hours of work: This is a full-time exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 40-60 hours per week. Some job activities may be required outside of typical workdays/hours. Overtime is expected during peak periods.


Travel: 20% local and regional travel, with overnight stays necessary


Required education and experience: Doctoral Degree Required


Additional eligibility qualifications: A minimum of 8 years of industry-specific experience required
