  • Status: Regular Full Time (40 hours/week; 12 months)
  • Classification: Exempt; Annual Salary up to $85,000.00 or $7,083.33/month

CAPE, Inc. headquarters is in Livermore, and provides early childhood education services (Head Start and Early Head Start preschool programs) in Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton, and Hayward areas. CAPE offers a cohesive environment for passionate people who want to make a significant contribution to early childhood education, social/emotional development and early childhood mental health.


Position Description: The Education Manager is responsible for early childhood education services and comprehensive service delivery for all enrolled children and families. In this capacity the Education Manager is responsible for coordination of curriculum and staff development and supervises the work of program specialist. The Education also ensures compliance with all Head Start and California State Funded Preschool Program regulations through oversight of CAPE’s on-going monitoring system. Responsibilities of the Education Manager included, but are not limited to the following:

•Supervise the Education Specialist/Mentor, and Education Coordinator/CLASS team

•Adhere to CAPE’s Safety, Supervision, and Reporting policies

•Administer instructional program standards and requirements

•Assist staff in selecting and using effective instructional materials, strategies and techniques

•Approve the selection of instructional materials and equipment and evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional program through periodic visitations and reports

•Review and approve the Education team’s expenditures

•Develop and maintain, with the assistance of content area specialist, documentation of area plans, policies and procedures for Education Services

•Ensure the development and implementation of plans and procedures to assess and monitor all program activities.

•Plan and carry out regular program services/unit staff meetings

•Assist in the preparation of the annual Program Information Report

•Serve as an advocate on behalf of the agency, families and children

•Work to expand the visibility of the agency in the community, developing formal and informal networks

•Ensure Performance Standards are met in areas of early childhood education services

•Assist with the development of written agreements and Letters of Understanding with community agencies to support collaboration as appropriate

•Review and update applicable agency policies and procedures

•Serve as a resource person for Head Start, Early Head Start and the State Preschool during reviews and program self-assessments

•Participate as part of the agency management team to assist in agency wide planning, development of new projects and creation of linkage and partnerships in the community

•Represent CAPE at local, regional and state activities

•Recruit, participate with local community projects (AB212, Quality Counts, QRIS, etc.)

•All other duties as assigned and/or deemed required




Requirements:

QUALIFCATIONS:

Education: BA degree and/or MA degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a closely related field. Coursework and/or specialized training in infant development.

Permit Preferred: Possession of a valid Program Director’s Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and Licensing.


Experience:

•Five years relevant work experience, minimum two years in a supervisory capacity

•Knowledge of theory and principle of early childhood education and developmentally appropriate emergent curriculum

•Computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word/Windows and Child Plus

•Knowledge of and experience with a broad range of Tri-Valley community resources and agencies

•Knowledge of the needs and problems of low-income families and demonstrated ability to work effectively with them

•Experience with ethnic and cultural diversities

•Strong organizational skills

•Bi-lingual skills desirable

Physical Demands:

•While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl; talk or hear, and taste or smell.

•Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds occasionally.

•Specific vision ability required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
