We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Engineering team to support ongoing engineering efforts and new product development. This position can work remotely.

Hampton Products International Corporation, located in south Orange County, CA, is a privately-owned, middle-market branded consumer products designer, developer, and marketer of innovative products in the security hardware, decorative hardware, storm and screen door hardware, and automotive accessories categories.

Reporting to the Director of New Product Development, the Product Engineer will be responsible for assisting and supporting ongoing engineering efforts on maintaining existing products and new product development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop new concepts, new designs and implement new technologies that support growth of product categories.
  • Collaborate with other engineers or cross-functional team members on assigned projects.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering activities to assure implementation of project goals. Develop project plan and process-product qualification.
  • Provide progress reports and updates of project and design progress.
  • Communicate with and manage deliverables of international factory partners to achieve project and design goals.
  • Participate in brainstorming and user feedback sessions to discover new product opportunities or improvements.
  • Interpret user needs and product requirements into documented technical requirements.
  • Use design for manufacturing best practices to ensure quality and manufacturability of products designed.
  • Utilize experience to improve and implement engineering best practices for design, DFM, drawings and documentation.
  • Develop engineering test procedures and processes for products and product lines.
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers.
  • Evaluates and assesses the technical and manufacturing capabilities of new factories.
  • Review patents, relevant journals, and proceedings to determine if new techniques used by competitors or related industries are of interest or threat.
  • Represents the company at trade shows, technical conferences, and factory visits (domestic and foreign).

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from four-year college or university; and no less than 5 years related experience in the manufacture, design and assessment of mechanical products; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to negotiate technical requirements and make the necessary judgements on technical trade-offs.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with a team of engineers and other professionals.
  • High level product expertise, particularly commercial and residential door hardware and/or portable security is preferred.
