The Mechanical Engineer (PE) collaborates with architects and sub-consultants to complete technical and design portions of building architecture, construction, and design/build. Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management; including experience with adjacent disciplines such as electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering is strongly preferred. Experience with planning and conducting inspections/investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities/structures is strongly preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis is required. Other duties may be assigned:Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, designers, and sub-consultants to complete design and technical portions of projects on-time and within budget, from initial concept design through completion of constructionIndependently support the project team during design and construction stages of projectsProvide technical leadership in the design of electrical systems in accordance with local codes and client requirementsPrepare construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimatesWork within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building ownersAttend client meetings and contribute to discussionsCollaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members and external vendors and manufacturersCommunicate mechanical engineering concepts and decisions to clients and stakeholdersInteract regularly with clients, which includes maintaining current relationships and developing new relationshipsMentor and train mechanical engineers and designersCalculate heating and cooling loads, energy consumption, savings, and life cycle analysis of HVAC systems using energy modeling softwareSelect equipment and components for mechanical systemsDesign control systems to include sequences of operation, control schematics, and control points listsProvide oversight of all aspects of mechanical design, review systems, drawings prior to issuanceSurvey and evaluate existing conditions and site investigation during the construction administration processReview existing drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and engineers and field verify accuracy and completenessPerform construction administration tasksCoordinate with other building design disciplines and work in a team environmentSupport proposal preparation creating technical scopes of work and budget estimatesCommunicate both verbally and in written form in a clear and professional manner with engineers, construction managers, equipment suppliers, contractors, and client representativesDelegate design tasks to junior staff and review their work for quality and accuracyWork with senior staff to develop and continuously improve department design and execution standardsRequired Knowledge and Skills:Strong proficiency with Mechanical Engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issuesExperience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management; including comprehensive experience in working with adjacent disciplines such as electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineeringStrong working knowledge of relevant engineering and mechanical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organizationExperienced with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulationsExperience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policiesHighly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audienceDeveloping self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients effectively, persuasively, and tactfully, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organizationAbility to interact well with others as well as develop and contribute to high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposalsExperience mentoring and training engineers and designers within the Electrical Engineering fieldExperienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexityProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WINDWARD's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policiesStrong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needsOccasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirementsQualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or Architectural Engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis7+ years of relevant, post education, experience a Mechanical Engineer, building engineering design and construction of multi-disciplinary projectsPE License required. LEED AP Certification a plusAbility to create Construction Documents in AutoCAD and Revit is requiredMust be able to work on-site/in-person (approx. 2 days each week)Project Management or Lead Engineer Experience a plusProject experience in Education, Corporate/Commercial Office, State and Local Government market sectors.
