The HR Generalist will play a critical role in assisting with HR operations, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and fostering a positive work environment. This position is based in Houston, TX, and reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).

Responsibilities:
The HR Generalist position at AK Law Firm provides support with the following roles:
  • Act as a point of contact for employee concerns and inquiries.
  • Mediate and resolve employee disputes and grievances.
  • Assist with Human Resource Information System (HRIS) implementation (Paychex).
  • Promote a positive work environment and culture.
  • Implement and manage performance appraisal systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers on performance-related issues.
  • Develop and facilitate performance improvement plans.
  • Oversee the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with recruitment agencies and other sources.
  • Ensure compliance with equal employment opportunity laws and practices.
  • Maintain and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure HR practices are compliant and effective.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and regulatory changes affecting HR practices.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate employee development programs.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and ensure effective onboarding processes.
  • Support leadership development initiatives and succession planning.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits.
  • Process payroll for non-exempt and exempt employees, 1099 contractor payroll on monthly cycle.
  • Manage the time and attendance systems against policies; point of contact with employees and management; maintain employee vacation and sick balances and reset annual accruals.
  • Set up and train new supervisors with access to the time and attendance system to track and approve employee hours.
  • Organize and maintain a confidential filing system to ensure compliance of accurate payroll record retention.
  • Manage Year–End Payrolls and issue and manage Annual W–2’s
  • maintaining employee handbook and HR procedures manual.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of compensation strategies.
  • Ensure employees are informed about their benefits and compensation options.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Prior experience with HRIS (Paychex preferred).
  • Professional certification in HR and /or CPP preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Must have 5-10+ years of experience in Human Resources.
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment laws.
  • Proven experience in employee relations, performance management, and recruitment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
