POSITION SUMMARY

Supportive Family Services (SFS) provides an array of services designed to offer individualized support to all members of families experiencing homelessness.

The Youth Enrichment Specialist (YES) plans and facilitates activities focused on supporting the social and emotional development in youth. These services are provided in conjunction with other services designed in the Home-Based Family Treatment family support plan.

The YES engages with the youth to understand their dreams and goals, helps connect them with opportunities in the community, and engages them in healthy activities. The Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE), 2Gen, Strengthening Families, and trauma informed approach provide the framework for services provided by this position.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT

Supportive Family Services (SFS) provides an array of services designed to offer individualized support to all members of families experiencing homelessness. Supportive Family Services is comprised of a team of case managers, youth enrichment, and peer support staff who provide wrap around services for families experiencing homelessness. Specific interventions include but are not limited to; support with finding housing, increasing income, and harnessing the resilience of individuals and families to increase their assets for permanent stability through caregiver groups, family activities, and youth enrichment. Building community and increasing knowledge and skills are two important outcomes of the services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with development and implementation of youth programs, workshops, and other activities designed to help build character, develop skills and involvement in their community.

Provide direct service to youth and families using the HOPE, 2Gen, and Strengthening Families frameworks and in alignment with the family’s support plan.

Model healthy, positive interactions with youth and caregivers.

Assist with individual goal planning and implementation for youth.

Document services provided using the Data, Assessment, Plan model.

Maintain program participant records of participation and progress in activities in accordance with agency standards.

Assist with facilitation of youth and family groups and activities related to implementing Strengthening Families, HOPE, and 2Gen framework.

Maintain knowledge of and professional relationships with community resource and service providers.

Complete monthly statistics as requested.

Organize recreational activities such as sports leagues, field trips, summer camps and other events.

Provide crisis intervention as needed.

Adapt to changing environments, think creatively and flexibly to meet the needs of the participating youth.

Must be willing and able to transport clients in personal and company vehicle.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education Qualification: High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience Qualification: One (1) year experience working with children in a childcare, school, or similar environment.

A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.

Ability to make sound decisions based on information available. Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekend hours and holidays. Ability to safely transport clients in agency’s vehicle if required. Ability to participate in indoor/outdoor events with clients.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment: The work environment is busy and high energy. It is a combination of a typical office setting and a shelter serving women and children experiencing homelessness. May be subjected to interruptions throughout the workday.

Physical demands: Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Rarely sit or stand at a desk for several hours at a time. Driving is required.

Travel: Travel out of Alaska is rare. Occasionally travel within Anchorage is required.

Location: 4600 Debarr Road, Anchorage, AK and Clare House shelter.
