Position Summary:

The Human Resources Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource office as well as the development and administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs. The HR Manager carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, records retention, employee relations, training and development, benefits, recruiting and safety. The Human Resources Manager originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide a high performance, employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. The Human Resources Manager coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs; reports to the Chief Financial Officer, and assists and advises company managers about Human Resources issues.


Essential Functions: This individual will oversee, in collaboration with department managers, the following HR functions and programs:

  • Recruiting and staffing logistics
  • Organizational planning
  • Performance management and improvement systems
  • Employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting
  • Employee leave management
  • Employee orientation, development, and training
  • Policy development and documentation
  • HRIS (Paycom), maintaining company and employee files
  • Employee relations, including managing workplace conflict and workplace claims
  • Employee communications, and adhering to record keeping requirements
  • Employee benefits planning & administration
  • Employee safety, welfare, wellness and health
  • Employee recognition and event planning
  • Back up to payroll processing

Secondary Functions:

  • Individual must be able to work independently with minimal guidance required. This implies good time management, planning/organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Individual must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, maintaining flexibility, objectivity and a capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Individual must be able to complete any reasonable request of management necessary to effectively operate the department/company.
  • Active involvement in Phenix Label Company's mission statement, core values, and non-negotiables.
  • Act in a pleasant, courteous, and respectful manner to all internal and external customers at all times.

Position Specifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development or equivalent.
  • 5 + years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources management.
  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations and safety preferred.
  • Preferred PHR / SPHR and SHRM‐CP / SHRM‐SCP certifications but not required.
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices.
  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in HRIS management and record keeping.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • English language required.

Physical and Other Requirements:

This job is performed indoors in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. Job tasks are performed in close proximity to other people and, when entering the adjacent manufacturing plant, include exposure to strobe lights, sounds and noise levels that are distracting. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, walk and bend. The employee must frequently sit, talk, listen, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires use of hands to handle, control or feel objects and operate computer and other office‐related equipment. Requires face-to-face discussions with individuals and teams, opportunity to make decisions without supervision, mistakes are not easily correctable and have serious consequences that impact the results of co-workers, customers, or the company. Requires being exact or highly accurate, meeting strict deadlines, and working with others in a group or team.
