Job Title: School Social Worker

Location: Berkeley, IL

Position Overview: The school is seeking a compassionate and skilled School Social Worker to support the social, emotional, and academic development of our students. The ideal candidate will provide direct services to students, collaborate with teachers and staff, and connect families with community resources. The School Social Worker will play a critical role in fostering a positive school environment and addressing barriers to student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Support:

    • Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
    • Assess students’ needs and develop intervention strategies to support their social and emotional well-being.
    • Assist students in developing social skills, coping strategies, and problem-solving abilities.

  2. Crisis Intervention:

    • Respond to crisis situations, providing immediate support to students and staff as needed.
    • Work with students and families to develop safety plans and connect them with appropriate resources.
    • Collaborate with school administrators and staff to address and manage crises effectively.

  3. Collaboration and Consultation:

    • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to identify and support students in need of social work services.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary teams, including IEP and 504 plan meetings, to develop and implement appropriate supports for students.
    • Provide consultation to teachers and staff on social-emotional learning and classroom management strategies.

  4. Family and Community Engagement:

    • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
    • Connect families with community resources, such as mental health services, housing assistance, and food programs.
    • Facilitate communication between the school and families to support student success.

  5. Program Development:

    • Develop and implement school-wide programs to promote a positive school climate and address issues such as bullying, attendance, and mental health.
    • Lead or participate in professional development for staff on topics related to social-emotional learning and student well-being.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of social work interventions and programs.

  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student services and interventions.
    • Prepare reports and documentation as required by the school district and state regulations.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies related to student services.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Worker endorsement.
  • Experience working in a school setting, preferably with a diverse student population.
  • Strong understanding of child development, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position, following the academic calendar.
