Department Overview

The Department of African American Studies at The Goddard School of Grand Rapids is seeking a dedicated tenure-track Assistant Professor whose research significantly contributes to Caribbean Studies. Our department is an academic community focused on enhancing the understanding of Black experiences across various regions, including the United States, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Research and Teaching Focus

We are particularly interested in candidates whose scholarly work engages with the complexities of slavery, colonialism, and their ongoing socio-political and cultural ramifications. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary approaches, integrating perspectives from cultural studies, history, sociology, and other relevant fields.

The Caribbean is a vital area of study for our department, and we welcome applicants whose research and teaching explore its diverse cultural representations, social dynamics, and political landscapes. We encourage innovative methodologies that address the evolving nature of Caribbean studies and its diaspora.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field by the time of application.
