Core Responsibilities- Student Assistance:
- Provide both individual and group counseling for students facing social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties.
- Evaluate student needs and formulate intervention plans to promote their emotional and social health.
- Guide students in developing essential social skills, coping mechanisms, and problem-solving techniques.
- Crisis Management:
- Address crisis situations by offering immediate support to students and staff as necessary.
- Collaborate with students and families to create safety plans and connect them with suitable resources.
- Work alongside school leaders and staff to effectively manage and resolve crises.
- Collaboration and Advisory:
- Engage with educators, administrators, and other personnel to identify and assist students requiring social work services.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary teams, including IEP and 504 plan discussions, to establish and execute appropriate support for students.
- Advise educators and staff on social-emotional learning and effective classroom management techniques.
- Family and Community Involvement:
- Act as a bridge between the school, families, and community organizations to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Connect families with community services, including mental health resources, housing aid, and nutritional programs.
- Facilitate effective communication between the school and families to bolster student success.
- Program Development:
- Design and implement school-wide initiatives aimed at fostering a positive school culture and addressing challenges such as bullying and mental health.
- Lead or participate in professional development sessions for staff on topics related to social-emotional learning and student welfare.
- Assess and monitor the effectiveness of social work interventions and programs.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain precise and confidential records of student interactions and interventions.
- Prepare necessary reports and documentation in accordance with district and state regulations.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and district policies regarding student services.
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Worker endorsement.
- Experience in a school environment, ideally with a diverse student body.
- Strong grasp of child development, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Exceptional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capability to effectively engage with students, families, and staff from varied backgrounds.
