We are seeking a full-time on-site Construction Inspector to work with a client in the Washington D.C. area (5000 Overlook Avenue, SW). This position will be responsible for working on site to ensure that the construction is being completed in accordance with approved contract documents. This role will also be responsible for preparing reports and documenting inspections on a daily basis under the direction of the Resident Engineer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Meet owner/client’s requirements and approval.

· Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.

· Understands and able to carry out procedures for emergencies, environmental incidents, security issues and the like.

· Responsible for day-to-day inspection, quality assessment of various construction activities with minimal supervision.

· Keep daily diary in field book. Prepare daily reports including description of contractor work activities. Perform various measurements for payment and track progress and quantities to support CM team with schedule and pay application assessments.

· Collect information from various sources to fully understand contract documents and enforce contract requirements (plans, specs and special provisions).

· Observe and test work in progress to ensure conformity with engineering design and specs.

· Analyze contractor schedule. Correlate work record and reports to activity IDs. Identify, document and communicate delays or issues that are or may affect schedule – in a timely manner. Facilitate contractor’s timely performance of work for the owner.

· Attend and participate in a variety of meetings such as pre-construction meetings, daily safety meeting, shape time, etc.

· Help coordinate Owner/CM independent testing.

· Upholds utility protection laws (markouts, dig with care, etc.)

· Inspects materials for conformance to designed and specified requirements.

· Smoothly interfaces with public, property owners, client and officials. Properly handles complaints personally or refers issues and potential or evolving issues to Chief Inspector, RE or designated staff.

· Resolves conflicts within the scope of authority and in a partnering fashion.

· Checks construction maintenance of traffic (MOT) installations and removals. Makes sure contractor adheres to MOT, Work Zone and other requirements. Monitors contractor activity and makes certain the motoring public and pedestrians are not impacted by worker, construction vehicle and equipment traffic. Particular focus on public pedestrian safety and worker safety.

· Performs filing duties, review of design drawings for constructability, does quantity take-offs. Evaluates cost, schedule and other factors and presents findings. Researches technical and other information and investigates various matters as directed.

· Prepare simple drawings or sketches.

· Drive/Travel to client meetings

· Utilize project management software to accurately and timely report employee expenses and recording of time

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

· High School Diploma or GED

· B.S. Civil Engineering or Construction Management a plus

· 8 Years inspecting construction activities. Education, military service/training, direct work experience in carrying out work and/or supervision experience may be substituted for years of inspection experience.

LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

· May be required to obtain clearance to government, military or privately-controlled areas.

· OSHA 10 hr. (minimum)

· OSHA 30 hr. (preferable)

· ACI Level I

· Other certifications may also be desired/required upon hire. Also, ability to obtain certifications after hire may be acceptable.

· A valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the organization vehicle insurance and travel policy
