REPORTS TO: Training Center Manager

DEPARTMENT: OPTIC

JOB SUMMARY: OPTIC is MHAAO’s Oregon Peer Training and Innovations Center program. The Facilitator is a vital member of the OPTIC team. The Facilitator provides training facilitation and support services in the delivery of the Peer Wellness Specialist training and other trainings we develop.

We are looking for Facilitators to join our team who:

  • enjoy learning and supporting others in their learning
  • have a strong understanding of the importance of training peers to do the work
The Role Training delivery

Facilitators train hundreds of people annually through our Peer Wellness Specialist and Culturally Specific, Black/Afrocentric Peer Wellness Specialist modules, both in-person and online. They engage students throughout training, ensuring a solid understanding of training content while navigating and addressing learning opportunities and challenging situations.

Maintaining strong peer values

Facilitators maintain strong peer values in all training delivery and development opportunities (e.g., acknowledging and respecting lived experience, validating shares, engaging the class, cultural awareness and sensitivity, trauma-informed practice, and belief in recovery for all). They relate training content to relevant real-life examples and present culturally specific training using trauma-informed practices.

Collaboration

Facilitators work closely and collegially with their co-facilitators to ensure students have a positive learning experience. While not actively facilitating, they provide co-facilitation support by responding to questions, gauging class engagement, and contributing when appropriate and relevant. They also assist the co-facilitator/OPTIC program coordinator with final training day preparations and information gathering, such as student applications and tests.

Other responsibilities

Facilitators also participate in MHAAO staff meetings, OPTIC team and admin meetings, organizational functions, our annual Peerpocalypse Conference, and additional duties as assigned.

Employment requirements:
  • Residence: Must be a resident of Oregon or Washington.
