We are currently looking for qualified candidates for the role of Director of Behavioral Health. This role requires an applicant to be bilingual (English/Spanish) and to work on site. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is a Regular, Full Time, Exempt role with a starting yearly salary range of $142,700 to $156,500 with full benefits. This position is eligible for a $5,000 hiring bonus after MNHC’s 90-day introductory period.
 

Primary Objective: 

Under the general direction of the CEO, the Behavioral Health Director administers the mental health and substance abuse services and programs provided at all Mission Neighborhood Health Center sites.  The individual in this position provides program leadership to ensure effective integration of the center’s primary care and behavioral health services agency-wide.
 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities: 
Administrative

  1. Provides leadership, direction and oversight in the implementation of adult and children behavioral health services; supervises and directs the work of the Behavioral Health Manager (s) and the MNRC Behavioral Health Team.
  2. Monitors and provides oversight of all behavioral health contracts, evaluating program effectiveness, ensuring timely reports and assuring compliance with federal, state and county requirements.
  3. Leads quality management efforts focused on behavioral health metrics; oversees the peer review process, privileging and credentialing of behavioral health staff.
  4. Monitors utilization and productivity for behavioral health services, establishing clinic wide expectations and goals and establishing strategies for revenue enhancement.
  5. Serves as a clinical supervisor to associate level credentialed clinicians in obtainment of clinical hours toward their license, individual and in team setting.
  6. Develops reports as required by funding sources and quarterly qualitative and quantitative reports of the behavioral health programs for the executive team and Board of Directors.
  7. Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures and standards of treatment of mental health and substance abuse services.
  8. Keeps abreast of new legislation and regulation that impacts behavioral health and advocates for MNHC patients.
  9. Develops and oversees behavioral health staff development.
  10. Analyses needs, strategizes with senior management and develops health center wide staff training on behavioral health and related topics.
  11. Supports the team in coaching and conducts performance evaluations of staff, including job performance, workflow, productivity, and medical records documentation to assure staff efficiency and a high standard of quality behavioral health care for patients.
  12. Tests and implements systems and processes to enable MNCH to provide online clinical sessions.
  13. Represents the Behavioral Health programs to other MNHC departments, MNHC’s Executive Team and the Board of Directors.  Represents the Behavioral Health Program to external organizations and governmental agencies.  Actively participates in the California Primary Care Association behavioral health workgroup.
Clinical
  1. Carries a case load of at least 20% to learn firsthand clients’ needs and trends in the community and to develop countermeasure plans and strategies.
  2. Provide brief or extended Psychosocial Assessments focusing on the patient’s present situation, including medical, mental health, substance abuse, socio-economic and immigration components, current needs, and relevant information from patient’s history.
  3. Performs crisis interventions and risk assessments for suicide and danger to others due to mental illness or grave disability.
  4. Utilizes a participant-centered, strengths-based model of services, provides insight-oriented, behavior modifying, and/or supportive psychotherapy to individuals, families, and groups of patients
  5. Uses evidenced-based models for treatment, including but not limited to: CBT, solution-focused therapy, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and health psychology.
  6. Utilizes depression screening tools (PHQ-9) and other screening tools as appropriate.  Follows the SAMHSA SBIRT (Screening, brief intervention, referral and treatment) model for patients with potential substance abuse problems.
  7. Assists patients with symptom/issue reduction (e.g. insomnia, anxiety, depression, and post-trauma symptoms, stress management, emotional dysregulation).
  8. Provides health and behavior assessment and intervention to patients with chronic disease or other health problems that are having difficulty managing their disease due to psychological, behavioral, cognitive, or social factors.
  9. Performs other duties as required or assignment to keep the program successful and evolving to meet patient and client needs

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate Degree in one of the Behavioral Sciences (Social Work, MFT, Counseling) or a Doctorate in Psychology from an accredited academic program
  2. Three (3) Years of leadership experience in a behavioral health program, treatment center/clinic or social clinic services setting.
  3. Must be licensed by the Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology and be able to clinically supervise credentialed (associate or certified) team members.
  4. Bilingual (English/Spanish required)
