General Description:

At the direction of the Skyland Ranch Experience Manager, the program manager will lead lessons as part of the outdoor education programming. Responsible for direct instruction and and supervision of children. Will also be responsible for meeting the needs of all students ensuring a safe and healthy outdoor experience. Assist in promotion, instruction and delivery of outdoor education and grant funded programming on site and off. Responsible for direct supervision of students. Housing (Shared Rooms) available to EE Camp Staff.

Essential Functions:

  1. Promoting of Outdoor Education and Grant Funded programs through photography, calls, meetings, or other avenues as determined by the Director of Programming
  2. Deliver innovative lessons to students in a variety of settings including nature hikes and trails.
  3. Assist in developing and implementing program ideas, plan activities for sessions, and evaluate the quality of the program.
  4. Ensure running of all aspects of camp including kitchen duties, cabin upkeep, cleaning duties, supply inventory, and all other duties needed for successful grant funded programs.
  5. Be knowledgeable about the needs of students, including special needs (i.e. diet, medication, bedwetting, etc.). Meet the needs of all students in your assigned group(s)/cabin(s).
  6. Maintain safe and clean camp environment for students and staff.
  7. Supervise and assist students in all Outdoor Education or grant funded activities (i.e. wake-up, meals, program, rest time)
  8. Report all accidents promptly.
  9. Complete and submit all reports and evaluations on time.
  10. Evaluate current Outdoor Education season and make suggestions for the following sessions.
  11. Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with who her/his job put her/him in contact.
  12. Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  13. Adhere to all council policies and procedures.
  14. Maintain the standards of the American Camp Association and local and state agencies.

Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Post-secondary education in environmental education, a plus

Minimum Experience required:

  • Some background knowledge in environmental education programming, a plus.
  • Experience working teaching age-appropriate lessons to children.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to keep supervisor informed and aware of activities and/or problems with area of work.
  • Ability to work within established procedures and to recognize the important responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and physically meet the demands of camp life.
  • Ability to provide for the health and safety of campers and staff.
  • Must be able to comprehend and practice all safety protocols and cleanings schedules for all Council and camp facilities.
  • Demonstrate a demeanor that enables instruction and appropriate correction of behaviors and practices that expose others to safety threats or immediate harm.
  • Ability to work with adults and children regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethic, or socioeconomic background.
  • Possess a positive attitude and be flexible, responsible, patient and enthusiastic.

Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU's

  • Valid California driver's license and an insured vehicle in good working order.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history background check
  • Ability to obtain 1st aid/CPR certification and Serve safe certification
