Foster Parent Recruitment and Training Coordinator
 San Diego Youth Services seeks a Foster Parent Recruitment and Training Coordinator in the Foster Care Program to be based at the College Heights Youth Center.  This is a full-time & non-exempt position reporting to the Program Manager. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.

We aim to:
  1. Meet the basic needs of youth.  Hunger, poverty and youth homelessness are on the rise for many youth and their families today. We help meet these basic needs for youth. What could be more vital than food and shelter? We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing.
  2. Create positive connection. We help youth focus on positive life changes and healthy relationships as part of providing needed resources and services. San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system.
  3. Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets.
  4. Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION OR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION HIRING FOR
San Diego Youth Services is one of the region’s best providers and source for foster care opportunities. Utilizing our one-to-one approach, we create outstanding outcomes for foster families.  Our foster families provide safe, stable and healing home environments for children who have experienced neglect and abuse. Our services also include a focus on helping current and former foster youth transition into thriving, self-sufficient, self-actualized adults. 

CONTEXT OF THE POSITION
Responsible for our Foster Care program’s recruitment and retention of new qualified, committed and loving foster parents through effective social media campaigns, marketing, outreach and training. Responsible for the delivery and maintenance of quality trauma informed parenting skills and compliance with Community Care Licensing documentation and standards. Must participate in program activities, develop resources that are in line with community needs, and maintain and evaluate quality services that are in contract compliance with funding sources.

Essential functions include:
  • Identify new opportunities to build public interest and awareness about SDYS Foster Family Agency, as well as determine effective strategies for recruitment, including collaboration with Marketing and Development Department, RFA Program Manager, and other SDYS programs as applicable, on Resource Parent(s) marketing and recruitment efforts.
  • Welcome, train, and support volunteers in the program and assist them in accomplishing their services whenever applicable. This includes the submission of the Volunteer Hours Report to HR.
  • Ability to engage, build rapport and maintain professional relationships with prospective and current Resource Parent(s), community partners, and contractors.
  • Identify, develop, coordinate, and monitor Resource Parent(s) training needs and update curricula as needed to meet certification, contractual, and treatment requirements.
  • Complete/Supervise home study process, Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE), for incoming/current Resource Families, including compliance items as indicated in the current version of the Written Directives from the State of California.
  • Attend staff and treatment team meetings as consulting member of the treatment team in matching and placement of foster youth as well as the Resource Parent(s) main support and advocate.
  • Engage and support the retention of Resource Parent(s) through listening, supporting, teaching, and empowering Resource Parent(s) to help them succeed in providing foster youth with therapeutic level parenting.
  • Organize and maintain necessary reports agency and administrative reports, information, and documents in compliance with Community Care Licensing and contract requirements, including submission of aforementioned documents to their respective parties (i.e., CCL, IEU, and other collaborative members of the community).
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in marketing, public relations, social work, counseling, public administration or equivalent knowledge/experience preferred.
  • Excellent public speaking, marketing, advertising, organizational, and public relations skills.
  • Experience screening, orienting, assessing, training, and supporting families in the Community Care Licensing certification process preferred.
  • Experience as a Resource Parent(s) or working with children, youth, and families in the child welfare arena providing placement, referral, crisis intervention, and education.
  • Must possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment or experience working in trauma-informed and dual diagnosis programs preferred.
  • Awareness, knowledge, and skills which appreciate and incorporate cultural diversity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Salary Range:  $21-24/hour
