FYI-For Your Information, Inc. seeks to engage a Human Resources (HR) Classification Specialist who will support the Human Capital Office of the IRS by providing classification expertise to standardize new and existing positions. Responsibilities include providing day-to-day human resources position classification management for a Title 5 federal agency. FYI offers a comprehensive benefit package including 401k enrollment. This is a full-time, remote position.

Day to Day Responsibilities include:

  • Review and evaluate position descriptions in accordance with OPM Classification Standards. Apply classification standards and supplemental guidance to determine title, series and grades.
  • Keep abreast of classification appeal decisions to determine organizational impact and impact on classification practice.
  • Provide management with insight in establishing organizational structures that are efficient, cost effective, support desired grade levels, and facilitate career development.
  • Make distinctions in the proper crediting of factor levels and ultimate allocation of grade levels to positions and communicates grade distinctions to management with supporting criteria and justification.
  • Conduct audits and prepare written evaluation statements. Determines whether an accretion of duties is justified or that the position is classified correctly.
  • Assist in planning and conducting studies to identify short- and long-range classification needs.
  • Advise managers on how to design positions for a complex organization.
  • Maintain and ensure position classification accuracy and consistency in interpreting and applying position classification standards.
  • Advise management on the accepted principles and rules of judgment in analyzing contentious and complex individual position and organization structure issues.
  • Adjudicate position classification appeals and develop a process to support consistently applying classification guidance across the organization.
  • Develop job descriptions and implement standardized/benchmark position descriptions for a variety of federal occupational series including professional, administrative, technical and wage grade.
  • Assist supervisors in determining the need for an exception position description and classify the position based upon knowledge of the position and the organization's mission and structure in compliance with OPM's Classifier's Handbook and Qualification of Standards.


Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in HR or related field strongly preferred.
  • Active technical federal experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience serving in a senior level HR Specialist or HR Consultant role providing classification at a Client-13 equivalent position.
  • Subject matter expertise in Federal OPM rules and regulations, classification standards, and federal regulations.
  • Understanding of how to comply with risk factor determinations and complete cover sheets that align with the position.
  • Knowledge of Federal staffing and recruitment procedures and processes desired.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent writing skills with specific attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, research skills and customer service skills.
  • Operate a PC in an office environment with average or better skills with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain a federal "Public Trust” security clearance; active or recent federal security clearance preferred.
