Dakota Carrier Network (DCN), a provider of high-speed broadband communication services, serving North Dakota customers with locations within the state and through its partnerships, has an opening at either our Bismarck or Fargo office for a Transport Engineer. Applications will be accepted through August 28th, 2024, or until the position is filled.

Job Summary:

The Transport Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, and maintenance of DCN’s DWDM, SONET, and OTN network infrastructure. This position may provide after-hours support.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements, and aids in administration of the DWDM, SONET, and OTN network infrastructure.
  • Ensures the integrity of the DWDM, SONET, and OTN network infrastructure by overseeing the network service, maintenance, and upgrades; assist in the configuration and maintenance of associated NMS systems. 
  • Reviews equipment and trouble reports and ensures all problems and issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Provides operations input for building and improving the transport network.
  • Prepares specifications for new equipment and oversees any network changes or upgrades; ensures upgrades and changes are completed in a manner with the least negative impact on service; and provides all recommendations to the NOC Manager.
  • Provisions and troubleshoots DWDM, SONET, and OTN services and equipment and act as a point of technical escalation.
  • Installs equipment at the NOC and/or remote locations.
  • Maintains a strong technical knowledge of DCN’s DWDM, SONET, and OTN networks by completing the training regime assigned for the NOC Transport Engineer position 
  • Maintains working knowledge of company products and services and the telecommunications industry.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the NOC Manager and the Director of Operations.


Qualifications:

  • 5 years of related work experience in the telecommunications industry
  • Experience improving or redesigning procedures for installation/repair processes.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical documents
  • Must be able to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license
