Summary

Develops and coordinates a regional collaborative of community-based services for the effective support of adoptive families. The continuum of services will include adoption support groups, training, crisis assistance, advocacy, and in-home coaching that is accessible to families in each county of their position's assigned region: Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Transylvania, EBCI.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities:

Adoption Support

  • Completes program and intake assessments on all families, as designed in the post adoption services model.
  • Develops and implements education and training programs, minimally 4 times per year specific to the needs of the adoptive parents served.
  • Develops and coordinates a yearly fun family activity in a centralized location to foster supportive connections among adoptive families.
  • Develops and makes available home-based and community-based counseling to post-adoptive families. This service will assist families with special needs such as issues related to the adoption of older children, children with mental, emotional and/or physical disabilities, children of mixed racial background, non-Caucasian children, sibling groups, children with abuse/neglect histories, and children with issues related to early childhood trauma.
  • Assists the Program Manager in conducting family surveys one year after the closure of the post-adoption support services.

Case Management

  • Provides individual advocacy, case management and/or referral services for post-adoptive families experiencing difficulties in obtaining assistance or other resources from involved agencies.
  • Coordinates with clinical staff to offer TF-CBT services, including 8 week training course "Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma" which will be offered twice a year in central locations.
  • Works closely with Social Services, Mental Health and other organizations and agencies to facilitate the provision of adoption-competent support services, including respite for post-adoptive families.
  • Develops and maintains client files that document all work done with individual adoptive families, particularly those that use any in-home coaching support services.
  • Documents all intake and closure data into a program database so information can be gathered and compiled to provide relevant information on the scope and effectiveness of the post-adoption services.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field from a four-year college or university required
  • Two years of previous work experience in a related field required
  • Qualified Professional (QP) designation required
  • Must have extensive knowledge of issues related to adoptive family identification, strengthening family bonding, and claiming, legal issues in adoption as well as adoption assistance
