Interstate Energy Systems is a distributor for MTU Onsite Energy Generators, generator accessories and electrical systems. Interstate Energy Systems is seeking an experienced Application Engineer. This position will be based in Omaha, NE and reports to Director – Engineering & Marine Sales.

Basic Responsibilities

Technical contact for outside sales team to ensure the proper application of MTU generators and supporting product lines. Assisting Outside Sales Reps with creating product specifications, bills of material, cost analysis and quotation letters. Interface with vendors and customers to ensure all required technical information are supplied for proper equipment integration. Design customized engine installation solutions to meet project requirements. Inspect and test finished equipment at customer’s location to verify satisfactory product installation and performance.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide all interface diagrams and instructions from manufacturer
  • Prepare submittals to customer for products being supplied
  • Create project-specific drawings
  • Design customized solutions for equipment systems
  • Travel to attend on-site integration and inspections meetings
  • Travel to perform installation reviews and product commissioning
  • Provide all required inspection and test instructions from manufacturer
  • Track open project tasks
  • Review scheduling of priorities with manager
  • Maintain electronic project file to keep organized and up to date
  • Travel to attend product update and training seminars
  • Travel to attend trade shows
  • Work with suppliers and customers to coordinate project schedules and resource management

  • Technical understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of standard engineering principles and techniques

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook; Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD

Position Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering / Engineering Technology preferred, but not required
  • 3-5 years’ experience with electrical distribution and/or generator systems
  • Ability to pass a drug test and other pre-employment checks
