Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transmission Planning Engineer III to join our team at Omaha Public Power District. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for performing technical and economic analyses to determine feasible, reliable, and economical expansion plans for our bulk power delivery infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of power system analysis tools and methods
  • Perform technical and economic analyses to determine feasible, reliable, and economical expansion plans
  • Develop and maintain computer models and study data to support transmission system analytical simulations
  • Coordinate transmission system plans with interconnected neighboring utilities and regional entities
  • Develop System Improvement Projects to address deficiencies and improve operational efficiency and reliability
  • Ensure compliance with NERC and MRO/SPP Planning and Operating Standards
  • Participate in local, sub-regional, and regional transmission committees to remain abreast of all factors contributing to effective transmission system planning
Requirements
  • Four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited degree) or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate
  • Four (4) years of equivalent engineering work experience
  • Knowledgeable in various regulations and codes applicable to their specific discipline
  • A valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT/FE) or other relevant industry-level education/certification
  • Familiarity and experience in Electric power modeling software, specifically PSS/E and PSCAD
  • Familiarity and experience in computer programming, specifically Python
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business
  • Demonstrated capabilities of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and presenting recommendations
  • Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of data collection and organization tools, such as Oracle, SQL, or MS Access
  • Understanding of ANSI, IEEE, NERC, or other Standards and Guidelines as they apply to Transmission Planning
