Job DescriptionJob Description

Imagine being an employee-owner of a company guided by engaged and empowered team members like yourself. Where a culture of respect, flexibility, and accountability aren't just ideals - they're our foundation, and diverse backgrounds and perspectives are valued as drivers of innovation and growth. Join us, as together, we are Building a Better World for All of Us®.

You belong at SEH

SEH is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join our Sales Practice team, serving the State of Colorado with a primary focus on selling our infrastructure design services to state-wide municipalities and counties. The successful candidate will support SEH’s growth goals through developing new client sales for our Civil, Structural, and Transportation/Traffic practices. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package and many opportunities for career growth.

We are looking for an outgoing individual with strong Public Works connections within Colorado communities (state, cities, and counties), MPOs/COGs, and TPRs to help generate new leads, build brand awareness, and position SEH to win new road and bridge work. Understanding CDOT processes and funding, and strong relationships with Local Agencies is preferred. Our successful candidate will be deeply motivated by leveraging their extensive professional network, meeting with clients, making new connections, developing new opportunities, and aligning SEH’s services to solve clients’ challenges. Ultimately, we’re looking for someone who loves building strong relationships so they can make a difference. If this sounds like you, we’d love to chat

SEH is an employee-owned collective of engineers, architects, planners, and scientists. We provide technically advanced, sustainable solutions for government, commercial, and industrial partners nationwide. This position will report through our West Region and offers plenty of choices for how and where you work best, whether in one of our SEH offices, a hybrid environment, or fully remote. Don’t worry, we have plenty of social events to help keep everyone connected throughout the year – happy hours, Rooftop Rockies games, summer parties, and chili cookoff competitions, just to name a few. We also offer many options to help grow your career through different SEH practices, locations, trainings, and other opportunities to develop.

Why our employee-owners love SEH:

  • "I was on vacation last week and had zero concerns that my colleagues would help out with anything that came into my inbox" – GIS Analyst
  • "What company has a CEO who cares enough to seek out one-on-one conversations ranging from 'How are you?' to 'What do you think would help the company?' SEH, that's who. " – Civil Engineering Technician
  • "Having the feeling that my voice matters and believing that SEH truly cares about the employees is so satisfying" – Sr Financial Analyst
  • "It feels good having colleagues and supervisors that provide support and resources for growth and learning" – Civil Engineer
  • "This is the first company I've worked for with a true entrepreneurial spirit." – Sr Mechanical Engineer

Why you’ll love SEH:

  • Collaborate on amazing projects of varying size and complexity that positively impact communities
  • Being 100% employee-owned means we all share in the company’s success
  • Career development through continued education, licensure/certification, skills, and technical training
  • Work arrangements that promote work/life balance
  • Flexible holidays enable individuals to tailor their festivities
  • Paid Family Leave provides time to care for loved ones, whether family by birth or family by choice

This Opportunity:

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Communicate information on the wide disciplines of SEH services to prospective clients
  • Develop relationships with key target clients and teaming partners; generate and develop leads for new client sales
  • Coordinate regularly with internal SEH practices to increase team selling, develop strong brand loyalty, networking opportunities, and generate new client leads
  • Prepare, maintain, and execute client strategy plans
  • Develop a pipeline of opportunities and achieve new annual business targets
  • Represent SEH at conferences and professional organizations to expand brand recognition and promote business development activities
  • Respond to inquiries from SEH clients and SEH staff to solve infrastructure needs
  • Assist clients with needs assessment processes, preparation of applications for funding (regional, state, and federal funding sources), and provide administration services of successfully funded projects
  • Identify scope and availability of grants and interface with funding agencies to assess the feasibility of successful funding opportunities on behalf of clients
  • Communicate information, both orally and in writing, to a diverse audience including state and federal agencies, local units of government, specialized professionals, residents, and community groups
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local government officials, County, State, and Federal agencies
  • Enter and maintain current accurate sales information with SEH’s Client Relationship Management (CRM)

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in understanding how Colorado infrastructure projects are funded
  • Advanced skill level using word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects through prioritization and workload scheduling
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to accurately and professionally present information to all levels of individuals both internal and external
  • Strong networking skills and an extensive network of contacts throughout the State of Colorado
  • Personal transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Proven track record in business development
  • Availability to attend night meetings. Some travel and overnight stays may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eight plus years of experience selling services to Colorado municipalities
  • Extensive professional network and current experience working with Colorado MPOs and TPRs, CDOT, Colorado counties and cities.
  • Recent work experience in a public-infrastructure-related role, such as Public Works Director or Project Manager.
  • Strong knowledge about and experience with Colorado funding programs and grants available
  • Planning-level understanding about municipal infrastructure; ability to obtain project information well ahead of any published RFPs
  • Relationships with DBE firms and other strategic teaming partners
