The Mission of the Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the archdiocese is seeking a Maintenance Manager for Blessed Sacrament Parish in Washington DC

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage the physical condition of all Parish Buildings and grounds to ensure they are safe, clean, and in good operating condition.
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of the physical condition of all Parish and School Buildings and Grounds.
  • Provide support, supervision and direction to the Maintenance Staff.
  • Organize the Maintenance Staff work schedules, vacations, etc. to assure adequate staff coverage to meet the needs of the Church, Parish Center, School, Rectory, and grounds.
  • Develop operating procedures for the maintenance staff.
  • Organize, and supervise the daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal, and special needs tasks that are necessary to maintain the Church, School, Parish Center, Rectory, and grounds and assure that the work is scheduled, assigned, and completed in a satisfactory manner.
  • Supervise the organization and completion of all work orders and other requests.
  • Purchase necessary Maintenance Department supplies & equipment, with approval, following Business Office and Archdiocesan procedures.
  • Develop an inventory control system.
  • Assist in the development of the maintenance department operating budget for the physical plant and grounds.
  • Supervise all work done by the Maintenance Department assuring all OSHA requirements, as they relate to necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and safety are being followed.
  • Supervise all required maintenance employee safety training.
  • Supervise the work of all contractors & vendors for all contracted services or repairs.
  • Monitor the school’s life safety equipment.
  • Oversee utility service for all facilities (gas, electric, water & sewer, telephone & internet.
  • Seek competitive bids for authorized contract work following Parish and Archdiocesan procedures in coordination with the Business Manager.
  • Review all authorized contracts and invoices, etc. that pertain to the Maintenance Department, using approved Business Office procedures.
  • Work closely with the Pastor, the Principal, and all parish staff to assure all buildings and the grounds are safe and in good operating condition.
  • Performs all “other duties as necessary” that are requested by the Pastor, the Principal, or the Business Manager.
  • Be flexible to change work schedule, as necessary, to meet needs of the Parish for coverage for special services and.
  • Be available to handle emergencies 24/7 as necessary.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • The desire to be a team player and work collaboratively with others.
  • Have prior experience in building maintenance or property management with an ability to perform necessary responsibilities above.
  • Have strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Have general computer skills.
  • Have some general knowledge of HVAC and other mechanical equipment,
  • Have some experience with minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Have some knowledge of federal, and DC laws that pertain to facilities administration.
  • Have the ability to communicate well in English.

VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Have some experience in landscape management.
  • Have some experience with IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) issues.
  • Have some general knowledge of sustainability / green issues.
