Reports To: Director of Student Housing

Location: Campus Corner Apartments at Green River College in Auburn WA

Compensation: $22.00-$23.00 per hour, Two-Bedroom Furnished Apartment, and a comprehensive benefits package

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.


Summary

The Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) works to provide live-in direction for student learning, academic success, and residential community by managing and coordinating the administrative, supervisory, and programmatic efforts for an area of 12 garden style apartment buildings that house 340 residents. As a live-in staff member, the Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for the development of a diverse, engaging, and comfortable living community. This is achieved by assisting students with their personal needs and concerns, supervising student staff, enforcing policy, formulating large-scale programmatic efforts, and assisting with the management of the front office. The Residential Life Coordinator is expected to work with other campus staff in the development of the Student Housing Community.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

General Functions

  • Provide direct leadership for student staff supervision and training, student conduct, and large-scale programming; participate in short and long-range strategic planning, assessment, and budgeting.
  • Support the Director and Assistant Director with housing operations as requested.
  • Work in collaboration with GRC Campus Life to train and create development opportunities for the Resident Assistant staff.
  • Supervise the Resident Assistants in their individual planning, promotion, and execution of social and educational programs.
  • Facilitate on-going training and development opportunities for staff and student leaders.
  • Coordinate and prepare student staffing for quarterly openings and closings.
  • Supervise intern(s), if applicable.
  • Develop and lead large scale fall training and refresher training for RA’s and CEA.

Residential Life

  • Hire, select, train, and evaluates six to eight student Resident Assistants.
  • Hold weekly staff and one-on-one meetings with the Resident Assistants.
  • Work to develop a sense of community among all residents through on-going passive and active programmatic initiatives.
  • Formulate strategies to assist students to adjust to life in a college, academic program, and to living in a mixed international/domestic student community.
  • Communicate clearly and frequently with residents regarding Resident Assistant programs, and other events.
  • Partner with Maintenance Supervisor to execute Health and Safety inspections of units.
  • Work to establish a strong working relationship with campus partners within Student Affairs, Campus Life, and International Programs through regular interaction and collaborative projects.
  • Support the RAs in mediating roommate and community conflicts. Directly handle the resolution of escalated conflicts doing the same. Recommend room changes as needed.
  • Collaborate with International Programs to support student transition and education.
  • Lead the professional staff in quarterly Resident Appreciation Week programs.
  • Lead large scale community programming for the site.
  • Oversee and lead residential orientation.

Student Conduct

  • Serve as primary housing hearing officer for student conduct hearings.
  • Partner with GRC Student Conduct and communicates routinely with Campus Safety to inform of violations of that may require Clery Act reporting.
  • Develop sanctions to balance educational and disciplinary aspects of student conduct.
  • Follow-up with residents regarding incidents and completion of assigned sanctions.
  • Hold informal meetings with students to proactively investigate and mitigate concerns or thematic behavior.
  • Maintain conduct records and follow administrative guidelines for student conduct.
  • Documents incidents and violations of community standards and ensure that the Resident Assistant staff does the same.

Other Duties

  • Due to the nature of the role, non-traditional hours may be expected on a regular basis. However, the Residential Life Coordinator will work during traditional office hours for a majority of a week.
  • Non-traditional hours will be expected during special events such as move-in/move-out, large-scale programing, while serving on professional on-call duty rotation, during campus emergencies, and to address the needs of the community.
  • Serves in a weekly professional duty rotation. While on duty, serve as a resource and back up to the RA staff, and responds to major incidents. Note: Being on-duty requires the Residential Life Coordinator be within a 45-minute response radius of the community.
  • Manage budget responsibilities within the position as assigned.
  • Communicate work orders, repair and replacement needs, and support maintenance and custodial services.
  • Review, update, and enforce policies and handbooks as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with Residence Life, Community Colleges, or related areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, staff, college leadership, and others.
  • Experience working with and supporting a multicultural environment

Preferred

  • Master’s degree, or master’s degree in progress, in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • 2-3 years related experience.
  • Supervisory experience of student staff.
  • A comprehensive understanding of student development.
  • Experience with international students.
  • Experience with large scale program development and execution.
  • Experience with crisis management.
  • May include undergraduate and graduate experiences.

Knowledge

  • Student development theory, leadership development theory within inclusion and social equity frameworks.
  • General computer literacy.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Teams.
  • Social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
  • Techniques for effective presentations and communication in a multicultural environment.
  • FERPA, Title IX, and other applicable laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations related to students.

Work Hours
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Due to the nature of the role, non-traditional hours may be expected on a regular basis. However, the Residential Life Coordinator will work during traditional office hours for a majority of a week. Non-traditional hours will be expected during special events such as move-in/move-out, large-scale programing, while serving on professional on-call duty rotation, during campus emergencies, and to address the needs of the community.
