FIRE & LIFE SAFETY TECHNICIAN

State Systems, Inc., the leading fire and life safety company in the Mid-South, is growing and is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our successful team in the Northeast Arkansas area.

This position is great for self-starters who enjoy working independently but also being part of a collaborative team.

The Fire & Life Safety Technician is responsible for testing and inspection of fire and life safety systems including, but not limited to fire extinguishers, exit and emergency lighting, eye wash stations and special hazards fire protection systems. The technician will provide accurate and detailed inspections reports with all proper documentation of deficiencies and improvements. The technician will perform approved service and maintenance on above fire and life safety systems.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure customers are serviced at the highest level of satisfaction through quality courteous service, and by applying experience, knowledge and training.
  • Thoroughly complete inspections and maintenance in timely manner as scheduled and interface with Inspection Coordinator to ensure that the customer receives the work per proposed scope.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and review inspection and maintenance results with customer.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies and company vehicle (if supplied) in good working order.
  • Study and learn NFPA standards for the inspection and testing of fire and life safety systems. Stay current with code requirements, and industry changes.
  • Inspect, service, install fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, fire suppression systems, and exit/emergency lighting.
  • Process work orders and complete all paperwork in a timely manner in accordance with approved and standardized procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Core Competencies:

  • Proficient computer skills in Windows based software and MS office 2000 or higher.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must have valid driver's license and a good driving record that meets company requirements
  • Strong analytical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess strong communication, negotiating, and time management skills.
  • Flexible Style; perseverance; action oriented; interpersonal savvy.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; ability to determine solutions for customers (consultative sales approach); customer focused.
  • Ability to work a full time schedule.
  • Available for to work overtime, nights and weekends to accommodate the customers' agenda.
  • Ambitious results oriented individual with entrepreneurial drive.


Physical Requirements & Exposures:

  • Must be in good physical condition with no limitations.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
  • Must be able to carry 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Must be able to push greater than 100 pounds as needed
  • Must be able to pull greater than 100 pounds as needed
  • Must be able to safely climb a ladder and reach a height of at least 12 ft.
  • Constant (5-8hrs/shift) standing, walking, handling items, and eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Frequently (2-5hrs/shift) lifting, carrying, repetitive motions, noise exposure, grasping items
  • Occasionally (up to 2hrs/shift) sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, balancing, reaching, crouching, exposure to weather


This position may require the handling of chemicals that may be skin and/or respiratory irritants. Person may also be exposed to ventilation areas which may have respiratory irritant. Must not be skin and respiratory sensitive to these materials and environments. MSDS are available.
