POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Diversity Programs, under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Awards and Diversity, is responsible for implementing the ASH vision for and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through strategic planning and management of priority DEI initiatives including but not limited to, the Hematology Inclusion Pathway Initiative, and DEI professional development activities. The Senior Manager collaborates with ASH staff and members to develop and expand opportunities for DEI across the Society.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal Collaboration

  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, advances the DEI priorities and goals of ASH across departments to drive meaningful impact on the Society and field.
  • Leads or oversees the successful incorporation of project management best practices into departmental projects and operations to ensure timely, efficient, and effective execution of organizational priorities and programs.
  • Serves as an organizational subject matter expert on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programming.
  • Supports the proceedings of ASH Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as well as corresponding Subcommittees, Working Groups, and Task Forces; oversees the implementation of their decisions; works with department administrators to lead the development and delivery of high-quality meeting preparation and delivery.
  • Develops strong, collaborative, working relationships across ASH departments to ensure DEI is incorporated into program activities (including professional development, communications, meetings, and publications).
  • At the direction of the Senior Director, leads department with establishing and executing DEI goals, metrics and policy development.
  • Partners with ASH Resource Development and ASH Foundation to support fundraising.
    1. Supports the development of funding proposals to secure external funding for relevant existing and proposed programming
  • Coordinates the development of an annual DEI communication to membership and dashboards to track key metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversees content for the ASH DEI web-based presence.

External Collaboration

  • Develops strong, collaborative, working relationships with organizations (e.g., CMSS, AAMC, US Agencies) to ensure ASH is positioned to lead and contribute to national DEI efforts in medicine, hematology, scientific research, and workforce development.
  • Works with other departments identify and support collaboration on DEI focused work.

Workforce

  • Supports the ASH HIP award portfolio including all existing programs and the development of new initiatives to enhance the longitudinal pathway of programs.

Management

  • Oversees the financial management of the DEI budget.
  • Supervises and provides for the professional growth and development of assigned staff.
  • Attends and/or supports ASH sponsored meetings and events; some of these will occur outside of normal working hours

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion, professional/workforce development, non-profit associations or medical societies a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to lead, collaborate and deliver thoughtful results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise with project management including project management software (such as Wrike).
  • Excellent program administration skills required; research grant awards/diversity fellowship programs experience preferred.
  • Proven expertise within the broad scope of the diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
  • Strong strategic planning skills.
  • Staff oversight experience required.
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multi-task with project management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong computer literacy skills required.
  • Must possess and exercise high ethical standards and a professional demeanor.
  • Must have ability to synthesize information and form conclusions/recommend actions.

PHYSICAL REQUREMENTS

Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.

Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment.

Requires periodic out-of-town travel.

ASH has a hybrid work environment, with core in-office days for all ASH staff on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and telework on Mondays and Fridays for eligible positions. The Society’s headquarters is in Washington, DC, and is within walking distance of several Metro stations on the Blue/Orange/Silver and Red lines.
